Tron Moving to Standby on Monday 9/9

After our trip in July I said no more VQ for Tron. The line takes way to long. I like that now we will get a wait time. I would rather have the information, than get in line and sit for who knows how long. I feel the same about Tiana, at least that is included in LLMP.

Youngesters meaning what? Minors? Young adults? And how many of them have had you as the exclusive planner who does it all? That last part makes a huge difference in what is being discussed.

For us my in-laws when they vacation with us rely on us to do the planning, to figure out the tech stuff, they despise QR codes for menus and wouldn't for the life of them use MDE the way we would. When they vacation on their own they stumble through stuff but would not use the app the way we would.
Young adults all in their 20's, with one having a 4 year old of her own now. We like to maximize our time in the parks and they like to ride as many attractions as many times as possible. They still talk about the time we hit Tower of Terror 13 times in just over two hours. I spent much of that time sitting on a bench outside the attraction watching them run by every 10-12 minutes.

Late night Toy Story Mania tournaments are also still a bit hit when you can fit in 4 or 5 rides in the last hour.

Based on your own thoughts? No, sorry, us 60+ people use phones frequently and quite well!
Being on the phone isn't the same as understanding and knowing the ins and outs especially with MDE that has a lot to it (too much really IMO as it slows down the app with all the background stuff). I actually think upper ages are on phones more than younger people lol but that doesn't automatically equate to wanting to use it for all things related to an activity. There's a lot you use MDE for and quite a lot lament the older days when it was not tied to the usage of a smart phone.

Ahh yeah if you are the planner it takes on a different level. The other ones aren't the ones doing the work in the first place lol so they don't really have to invest as much into it. Non-head of the planning committe always get the luxury of saying "what's next". But I'm going to assume it would be a different tune if they went to Disney on their own without siblings or other members, especially the one with the 4 year old.

That said gen z are increasingly dumbing down their phones going from smart phones to lower tech phones mostly from what I hear to get out of social media stuff.

I don't think there's an either/or here on a generational call out but there's valid points to the PP's commentary. When you hear grumbling about all the little facets of xyz that use the phone (in this case it's a Disney trip) it does more often than not tend to be coming from those older, we all tend to grumble about parts of it no doubt. IMO no offense is needed to be taken because they aren't talking about you personally who is already one step ahead of many other park goers by even being on a site like this with access to information and tons of knowledge that people try and keep up on.

Disney does not disclose how many LL they sell.
Too bad. That would be some interesting data to look at for the various rides. Those of us who have done a park during ETPE, EEH, or an AH party know that the standby line moves so much faster when almost nobody is in the LL.

I guess we'll have to generate our own data. Who wants to volunteer to stand near the entrance of TRON for an hour to count how many people enter through LL vs. Standby? :joker:

that is my fear, I think it is coming soon. What is the rationale for Disney to open Tron (who has is a worse queue and not able to accommodate many people) but not open GOG? I am going to WDW in Feb 2025 and I hope it stays
GoG is the only VQ at Epcot, but magic kingdom has two. Two is really not great, because you can only get one at a time - I bet they get a lot of complaints from people who can't do both Tiana's and Tron. Tiana's was originally supposed to go standby soon, but it's been unreliable so needs to stay VQ, so they're moving Tron to standby instead.

GoG is the only VQ at Epcot and with no new rides planned for that park they have no urgency to remove it.

Didn't mean to imply everyone that age does but on average compared to younger age groups, phone use is less frequent by a fair amount.

Exactly. This is how my in-laws are as well. I lost count of the number of times I heard "Why do I have to use my phone? I wish they just had paper menus like they used to!" during the pandemic.

With reports of having to wait an hour for VQ rides, I opted not to go the VQ route at all on our last trip. I paid for ILLs. But I will say, I now know, GotG is worth an hour wait with a VQ.

Has Disney said Tron will not be open during EE? I read a blog that states that, but not sure if he was guessing or read if from Disney.

ETA Nevermind I see it now, the opening times are listed 9:00am (for next week).

At least during its VQ days, TRON did not officially open during ETPE, but at normal park opening. When I've been lucky enough to get a boarding group <= 10, there have been times when TRON opened & my boarding group was called during the last 10 to 15 minutes of ETPE, and I've ridden it before official park opening.

Until I hear otherwise, I assume it will be the same after the switch to standby.

Looking forward to live updates on the Tron standby, and also to see if/how it affects sales of LLSP for Tron!

I've been keeping an eye on the wait times today, and after initially spiking to 105 at park open, it's not actually been terrible all morning. Right now it's 60 and at one point a little earlier I even saw it sitting at 45. Not bad at all day for a day with no party. I'll be very curious to see what it looks like later on tonight.

One thing I've noticed is a big impact on SP availability. They're sold out already, which hasn't been the case the odd times I've checked the app since the revamped system launched.

Just checked MDE - app is showing wait time of 60 minutes.

I expected it to be higher, but I guess this is one of the slower weeks for WDW.
