Triple D's February Challenge - The Wait is Finally Over!!

WOW! What an exciting day for the Ducks!! I am totally floored by all of the interaction that is really going on. This seems more and more like a family than just a team and that is a good thing. A lot of times teammates start thinking about themselves and not the team. Families are more like the Mighty Ducks. They fly together!!! (Gotta love that movie!!) Everyday that I get online after work, I get more and more excited. This is going to be an incredible year. For teammates, for friends, for families!

Erica Very, very good on the movie quotes. I know it was an easy one but that was my quote for my first 5k last year. It was successful because I finished and PR'd over my training time and I didn't finish dead last. It was a failure because I was last in my age group (by 15 seconds!!). I am going to have to think up of a quote to see if I can stump you. We can have a lot of fun with this if you want.

Mike There will be other Goofy's. It's all good. I can't thank you enough for all of the positive reinforcement that you have been sending my way. I don't know if I am really worth the adualtions. This is really fun for me. I love training, helping and hopefully motivating anybody and everybody. Call me crazy:crazy2: but that's me.

Betsy Those events really sound awesome. I hope someday I will be able to do something that fun. I have to ask though one question. How is the shoulder doing? Please take care of yourself.

Jenn22 Congratulations on the room. I hope I can get a good deal on mine as well. What's the saying? A penny saved. Again, that's awesome!!

Update I know I didn't get to everyone and I promise I will come back at another time and try too. I just wanted to share something else real quick. Unfortunately, Liz is having a hard time with her recovery. She is home but can barely move. I believe she is still dealing with the fever issue but also has been very icky in her stomach. I know we all want our teammate back and healthy but I have to say that I have a selfish reason. I really miss my sister. She was the one that talked me into doing the Disney races and actually, the team competitions here. I will keep you as updated as I can. I knew she was going to be out for a while but I had high hopes that she would be able to blow thru the recovery process. Liz, this is for you!!pixiedust: :grouphug: :cheer2: pixiedust: pixiedust:

Have a great day everyone!
Bryan

are you Kansas teammates anywhere near Lawrence? I'll be there in June for my half Ironman. :) It was windy last year. And not flat, like everyone seemed to think it would be. I loved that bike course!

I'm about 2 1/2 hours from Lawrence...my daughter lives in Lawrence. It's almost always windy that time of year and no, it's not flat. :) When in June will you be there? I have a pretty full calendar, but would love to come cheer you on, if possible.

I've never done the RAGBRAI, but have heard AMAZING things about it.

:rotfl2: Totally forgot why I was checking in here. Dh and I are heading to California to visit our wonderful grandkids (5 of them), so I will probably not have many miles/hours to post for a week.
For this week to date my minutes/mileage are: 340 minutes 15.6 miles
That's a mixture of wogging and cross training. I don't think I will be able to get anymore miles/minutes in this week, so those are my weeks totals.

Good job, SamSam!! have a safe trip!!

Bryan...thanks for keeping us updated on Liz...I hope so much she gets to feeling better soon. pixiedust: There's a little pixie dust for her!

Mike...it's all good. The race isn't going anywhere...do it when it's a better time for you. :goodvibes

Kansas folks...I'll keep you posted on the race up there. It's still a long way off.

I've been a good girl this week....haven't missed any training so far.

Oh, and Bryan, my shoulder is doing quite well. I'm not actually swimming yet (though I do get in the pool and kick a bit), and haven't ridden my bike outside, because I'm not quite strong enough yet, but it's getting there. :thumbsup2

I read a bit on the Urban Dare races, they look like a lot of fun. Where did you do yours, Betsy? I see there is one in NY in May, might be worth more thought. The Sunday before is the 5 Boro Bike Tour, which is also fun. Not a race, just a ride through all 5 boros on NY.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Betsy sounds like you've done so many great races. You make me want to start looking around to find something fun to do. DW tells me if I'm going to keep running to find somewhere fun to go.

Bryan I hope Liz gets better soon no fun being down. Bryan I'm glad to have been put on a great team with you as the captain. You re the rock of this merry band I can see already.

P.S how many of you plan on running the WDW fulll or half in 2010 tyring to see if this will fit my plans. Has anyone run the Nashville Rock'n'roll half or the Flying Pig in Cincy.

PSS the weather in Ohio stinks I'm envious of the nice weather some of you have down south. 4 inches of snow in January and woke up to a foot more yesterday. Running was quite entertaining yesterday mileage was down on fear of being killed by snowplows.:rotfl2: Have a great day and be safe out there Rich.

I'm here - just haven't had a chance to do my introduction. Its too cold this AM for me to get out and do anything so hopefully after work it will be a little warmer and I can get out for at least 2 miles. Its 36F out right now - I know not cold for most of you but for this Florida girl its down right FREEZING. I have a 5k on Sunday so I hope it gets a little warmer (not much) by then. I love the cold but not the really cold. I think its forecast for high 50s for Sunday so that will be good.

I will try to add my intro later - gotta get to work.

Lisa - great description of RAGBRAI. I've never done it either, but have met a lot of folks who have. It sounds like a week long, rolling party and the town support is great. I'm in KC and have taken the Missouri Dept of Nat Resources KATY Trail ride four times. Great support and a much saner pace. It's an old railbed and the railroad picked the flattest route 100 years ago. I have gone to Lawrence and ridden the levy trail for training. It's a great college town.

ryley26 - I plan to run the 2010 half.

I did C25K w1d3 this morning. It feels great.

Have a great day all!

Ronda

Hey y'all! I know my name isn't on the list at the beginning of the thread, but I think Susie (escape) actually added me to the group. I'm new here, so I know that no one knows me!! So here goes:

Name: Missy
Location:Hoschton, GA (NE GA, between Athens and Atlanta)
Races that you have competed in: Well, I haven't competed in any events yet...That's kinda why I'm here. I've just begun my training using "The Beginning Runner's Handbook". I do plan to run in my first 5K soon!
Races planned for 2009 thru Marathon Weekend '10: As of right now, the first race that the DH and I have planned is a local event, which is the 4th Annual South Jackson Jog scheduled for March. I'm really excited about this as it's being held at the elementary school that I attended. I'm sure there will be more races, but that's the first that I know of for sure. I am dreaming of the 1/2 Marathon next year, but will have to wait and see if we can swing it!
Goals for 2009: Obviously, to compete in and finish my first race ever...To lose weight, and to improve my health.
Some secret that no one knows about you that you don't mind sharing: Wow...I can't really think of a "secret". One thing that most DIS'ers probably don't know about me is that I am a huge dirt-track racing fan...I'm also a HUGE Rhett Akins fan (if anyone knows who he is). I LOVE seeing him in concert and have driven as far as 7 hours one way to see him!!

My DH and I are actually training together, so he may be part of this group as well. He doesn't actually post here on the boards, so I will just post his numbers for him if that's okay.
I'm really excited to be part of this team, and I can't wait to start adding some numbers!!

I hope that y'all don't mind be patient with me, and helping me understand how to post our numbers. If I've read the other posts right, we need to post at the end of each week, correct? Are we posting time or distance, or both? Thanks again for letting me be a part of the team!!

:welcome: Missy! Glad to have you on the team. And don't worry about asking questions -- we're all working this stuff on miles and minutes through together.

Ronda: Good jon on the C25K. Glad it is feeling good!

Tricia: Normally I'd feel compelled to make a snarky comment about southerners and the cold, but i saw the weather reports and, well, yeah, it *is* cold down there! Hope it warms up for your race.

Rich: I'll be doing the Goofy Race and a Half Challenge in 2010 (and maybe the 5k run on Friday. Post about the Flying Pig on the main weekly thread -- I know a few WISHers have done it, but can't remember who. Maybe Jeanne or Wendy? Oh, and the weather here is lousy, too. Come on, spring!

SamSam: Good job on the week. Have a great trip!

Bryan: You talkin' to me? You talkin' to me? You talkin' to me? Well, who the hell else are you talkin' to? You talkin' to me? Well, I'm the only one here.... Bring it on, dude. I've never met a movie (or song--my kids keep bugging me to try out for Don't Forget the Lyrics) quote I didn't like.

Betsy: Okay, I thought of one that is pretty memorable. I've done the Tunnel to Towers race. I don't know how known it is outside the NY area, but it is a charity 5k (ish) run in honor of a firefighter who died on 9/11. He was off-duty at the time but tried to head in to help. His vehicle was stoppped from entering the tunnel, so he grabbed his gear and ran through the tunnel to the towers. I'm planning on doing it again this September, but I'm inspired by your fun events to start looking for some other, unusual races.

Lisa: That race/ride sounds like a blast...though i think I might fall into the "drinking their way from town to town" category.

Liz: Lots and lots of PD for you! pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust:

I am off to do my weekly volunteer shift at the nimal shelter. Only my love of animals could get me out walking in the cold for the next few hours -- but those big dogs need their exercise, so off i go. Hoipe everyone has a great day.

Tricia Just to make you cring the other day when I started my run it was -20 with wind chill. My wife finally admitted the I'm insane and need mental help.:rotfl2:

Are my eyes deceiving me or did Rich say that I was The Rock of our family?? That is coming from the one person that beat me in total miles last season and he is saying that I am the rock. I can't tell you how much it means to me to be able to get such compliments from a group of my peers. Never in my life have I ever had such a group be able to push me to new heights as the WISH boards have. Most of the people that know me have always done just the opposite. (I guess that is why I have always battled with low self-esteem.:confused3 ) Thank you one and all. This team... No. This family means the world to me!!

Missy Welcome to the fray!!!:thumbsup2 :cool1: I am very glad to add a neighbor to the group. It sounds like you have some very good goals for the year. I sure hope that you are able to find the support and energy to not only complete them but to exceed them. I have to warn you though. There are some of the team members here (me, me, me) that are a little crazy and like to have fun.:crazy2: :crazy2: :joker: :hyper:

Erica Was that you that was hosting the Great Movie Ride the last time I was on it? I guess the "coppers" didn't get you then either huh??:rotfl: Here is my movie quote for the day: It just got too hard. It's supposed to be hard. The hard is what makes it great. If it wasn't hard, everyone would do it. Any guesses? Game on!

Rich You are a lot more man than I am to go out in weather like that for a run.:worship: :worship: :worship: That kind of stuff right there. That's what motivates me to go out there and do the best that I can. Fantastic!!

Tricia Hey Tricia!!! I didn't think you had left us already. (At least, I had hoped you hadn't!!) Trust me when I say that we understand that life can get in the way at times. Life has gotten in my way to the point where I haven't had the time to shave in the last 4 days. I am starting to look pretty hairy. (I used to have a joke when I had a beard in high school. People would ask me why I had a beard. I would always answer that it helped cover up the ugliness underneath. Problem was back then, not to many people disagreed. )

Betsy I am glad to hear about your shoulder and overall health. I know it has been rough going for you for the last few months. Just know that you have a lot of support here anytime you need it. Thank you for being such an awesome inspiration!!

As for me, today was the first day this week I took off from the gym. It was partly stupidity on my part. I didn't check last night to see if I had any gym clothes clean so when I got up this morning and I didn't, I just decided to take a day off. I am one of those weird people that love to workout. I know it is good for me to take a day off now and then but I don't like doing that. It makes me feel like I missed a chance at being better. I guess that is a mindset that we have when we have lost the weight once. In the back of our minds, we feel like if we take one day off that it will come back just like that. Talk about a mind game.

2 more days to go for us to make our first week's post of miles and hours. I am trying to develop a spreadsheet on my computer so it will take care of the calculations for me. (I, unfortunately, am pretty weak in Excel so not quite there yet.) I have some friends that are very good in Excel and are trying to help me get this going so I can have an easy system to keep everything organized for the season and the year of the Triple D's!!:cheer2: :cheer2: :grouphug:

Bryan:mic:

Good morning Bryan, if you need any help with the spreadsheet please let me know. I live in spreadsheets, just part of my job! So I am very able and willing to help.

Hey gang just a quick drive by to let you know I am still alive. Work is just nuts this week and for a change I am doing more exercise then talking about exercising so just haven't had a second to check in.

I promise after this week at work I will be a better team mates and will check in my hours on the 7th.

Have a great weekend all.

Kim

Thank y'all so much for the welcome! As I said before, I am really excited to be part of this group!
And by the way, I don't mind a little craziness and fun!:p Ya gotta get through life somehow, so you may as well have fun doing it!;)

I am one of those weird people that love to workout. Bryan:mic:

I didn't know that that was weird. I always look at people that don't like to work out as weird. In my best Roz voice... always positive, always positive.

Mike "GG" B

What a beautiful day! It's going to be 70 degrees. The bike felt good this morning.

Have a great day everybody!

Bryan:mic:

Oh, it is on, dude! And nope, no guesses -- you don't need to guess when you are queen of the movie quotes and know the answer. I will say, however, that I admire you for (a) finding a good, fitting, inspirational movie quote, and (b) not going with the standard obvious League of Their Own quote, "There's no crying in baseball!" Which is, of course, a great line in itself, and one used and paraphrased in my house regularly.

Just a word of advice -- if you are going to stump me, it will most definitely not be with a baseball movie. We have a whole movie marathon lined up to celebrate pitchers and catchers next week. You might say "I believe in the Church of Baseball." One good movie quote deserves another...

Thanks for the quote, and the challenge. As they say on the Great Movie Ride, I'll see youse in choich, Bugsy. Them coppers never had a chance!

Ronda your killing me its 18 outside right now. We're going to have a heatwave this weekend it my get into the 40's.

Okay, no matter what your info under your username might say, you are not located next door to me . . .but I wish you were! I am sooo over this cold and snow nonsense. 70 sounds like heaven!
