Triple D's February Challenge - The Wait is Finally Over!!

Those are some gorgeous dogs there, Vic! And I'd have to say they look like they are very contented and doing great. Keep up the good work. :thumbsup2

The week is going to start and I'm not sure what to do. I need to find out now, because M-F I cannot, repeat cannot, surf the web like this... really, I can't.

I know we track miles/minutes and the results get posted in the weekly thread. Someone smarter than me keeps track of team results and bragging ensues.

It sounds like all activities qualify so my commute to work (bike) is an hour or 10 miles?

Do I report both?

Thanks,
Ronda

Hi all! I think I am on your team--not listed yet:confused3

Name Beth
Location West Michigan
Races Completed Disney Marathon 08, Expedition Everest, Detroit 1/2 Marathon, and several 5ks
Races Planned Martain 1/2 Marathon in April,Tulip Time Run in May,and Mackinac Lilac Festival 10k in June and hopefully more.
Goals for 09 lose weight and work out more
Secret :ssst:

Ronda Yes. Your commute to work will qualify since you are biking it. That is what Augie does also. You will also count both miles and time so you will count 10 miles and the hour that it takes. Hope that helps.

Erica Happy early birthday!! My DS(14) celebrates his birthday on the 10th. My son is about to be old enough to get his learner's permit. That scares the crap out of me. (Am I really old enough for that??)

Vic Those are 2 beautiful dogs buddy. It really makes me wish I had another dog. My last dog died of old age and it has been very hard to get passed that one as that dog was with me for a very, very long time.

Ronda Thanks for the lesson. I will have to look that up and learn some more about it.

Augie You are not a newbie anymore but then again, after the introductions, none of us are newbies. Now, I have told you once and I am going to tell you again. You can do the Half with us. Go ahead and sign up!!

Sharon The secret was supposed to be something that you "don't mind" sharing just so we can know you a little better. Not one of the secrets that you haven't told anyone but just something that you may not have shared here on WISH before. But with that said, I am happy to know what your real name is. Gives us a little more personal feel to me.

My Update I spent about 3 hours at the gym today. First I was giving some training to a new client. Second, I worked out doing biceps and triceps for about an hour. (Working on that strength thing.) Third, I did my 20 miles on the bike. I felt really good afterwards too. It was awesome to know that I could still do that. I am planning on another 20 miles on the bike tomorrow and at least a 5 mile trot after that. Afterwards, I went and had some fun with my brother and father. We went to a local racing go-kart track and just had a blast. It's as close as I will be able to get to actual racing (on wheels).

I know this is going to sound stupid or cliche but this is so much fun for me. I can't thank you all enough for allowing me to continue being apart of this team.

Sorry for rambeling. I will shut up now. Have a good night everyone!!

Yeah, I have a ton of work to do and really cannot be surfing the 'net. yet here I am. Go figure.

To answer your question, keep track of both miles and minutes, where feasible. So if you bike 10 miles to work in an hour, both the miles and minutes count. On the other hand, if you are doing something like an aerobics class where you can't track miles, obviously only the minutes count.

Hope that helps!

Bryan, I am right there with you. This weekend we registered my oldest son for (gulp) high school. Which is absurd since he was just cutting his first teeth a few months ago, right? and how is it physically possible for someone as young as me to have a kid as old as him?!

and Beth, welcome to the team! Once you've posted, you are one of the team and immediately sucked into the Triple D zone. No matter how you may try to escape, it will keep drawing you back. trust me, I know....

Okay, back to the guests and the game.

Helloooo, triple DDDs! I'm here visiting, and hoping on making a stopover a regular thing this year. Good luck with this year's challenge.

Also, please send my best to Liz. I don't know what happened, but I'm thinkig good thoughts and trying to gather all the PD I can for her.

A couple of shout-outs:

Bryan: :grouphug: Just because!

Sharon: I hope to sign up for RftT, so it's good to know you're in!

Vic: You know that I'll just make up a secret about you if you don't share one. And mine will involve women's lingerie. And maybe Earnhardt and Dusty. :rotfl2:

Betsy: I didn't know you were doing Dopey! Me, too! I should be fine, once I get over the faintness I feel whenever I think about the registration fees. I look forward to training with you! Erica needs to do Dopey, too! Put some pressure on that woman!

Kim: You know, you should sign up for the DL 1/2 and get the coast to coast medal. You know you wanna!

Vic: You know that I'll just make up a secret about you if you don't share one. And mine will involve women's lingerie. And maybe Earnhardt and Dusty. :rotfl2:

OMG!!!! That was funny!!:lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl: I was not expecting that at all but it made me laugh out loud, literally. (No offense Vic!)

Debra Thanks for the hugs and the visits. I think one of the reasons we didn't do more of that last year was because a lot of us were new and was afraid or intimidated about doing so. Just a thought.

As for Liz, I talked with her briefly today and she is doing well. She is going thru a post-surgery fever. I hate to say that I don't remember exactly what type of surgery she had but I got a message from her saying that there was no sign of cancer so I was able to relax and breathe again. She is supposed to be able to go home tomorrow but I imagine there will be a large bearing on whether or not the fever breaks. Anyway, that is about all I have right now but I will pass on what I can as I get it. I have passed on to her that we are all thinking about her and sending as much pixiedust: as we can her way. It almost seemed like that made her feel better just knowing that.

Thanks Team! You guys ROCK!!!
Bryan

Ronda, cool that you also commute to work. I try to do it as much as I can, my motto is, if it is not raining when I get up, I am riding in. Have got caught a few times for the ride home. And this cold weather does not make it any easier, I think the extra layers adds a few minutes. I also have a problem this time of year in that I work at a place that is situated on a few square mile piece of property, and I sort of 'sneak in' to work through the woods and fire roads. This time of year I sometimes have to trudge through a mile of snow.

I also am in the same boat with kids getting older, my son turns 16 next week, and is anxiously awaiting his permit. I am not!

Have a good week, everyone!

Hi everyone! Trying to catch up from the weekend!

Just joined the group so here's a little about me..

Name Jenn
location Northeast NJ (right outside NYC)
Races I competed in Not TOO many yet! 4 5K's...
Races planned for 2009 thru marathon weekend in 2010 other than the Disney 1/2 in 2010...I haven't registered for any more yet but there WILL be a lot more to get me in shape for the half! I'll obviously keep you guys posted!
Goal for 2009 In theory I want to maintain a 10min mile pace for a 5k, possibly a 10k. Also want to tone up some more and hoping all this cardio will help me lose body fat!
Some secret know one no about you I'm slightly addicted to Guitar Hero. :lmao: I know, not earth shattering... but I'm drawing a blank right now as to a real secret! I also HATED running with a passion and never ran a full mile until about 3 years ago when my old gym owner tried getting everyone at the gym to run the local 5k in town. Now I'm signed up for a half marathon..go figure!

OK...on to replying to some of you guys! If I missed you, I'm sorry!

Some secret that no one knows about you that you don't mind sharing:

It definitely seems that things have turned around completely... Just by reading a few posts everyone here hands down loves ya! :)

Some secret know one no about you

WOW..that's awesome!

Some secret that no one knows about you that you don't mind sharing: While on vacation I look under park benches and rocks (geocaching).

My friend geocaches and LOVES it! I don't have a handheld gps yet but hopefully when I get some extra cash, I'll buy one and join in on the fun!

Everyone have a great day and I look forward to getting to know all of you.

Welcome fellow newbie!! :)

Races I have competed in: a LOT.

Holy running batman! haha..that's awesome! I need some of your motivation!

Look forward to my new team and getting us all to our 2009 goals!!!!

Same here! :)

Secret: I love playing Rock Band with my kids. But they don't let me play when their friends come over.

Haha.. a fellow addict. :)

Secret: It wouldn't be a secret if I told. ;)

Hi Sharon... we'll work on getting that secret out :)

A little place in Switzerland called CERN. I am not much of a runner, but an avid cyclist.

Ohh...Switzerland is absolutely beautiful. I was able to go during school and we went to Lucerne and Lugano. I would love to get back there!

Secret: I cried earlier this week over a news story showing the remnants of Shea Stadium.

Good luck on the dual! And um...I shed a tear for Yankee Stadium :guilty:

Welcome! We'll get your secret out too lol

Hey Bryan, Thanks for being our captain and keep up the great attitude and enthusiam.

Name: Mike
Location: Downingtown, PA (northwest of Philly)
Races that you have competed in: been Goofy twice, 7 marathons (counting 3 at Disney), >20 half marathons, 15 10 mile races, lots of trail races of varying distances from 7 to 13 miles, lots of 10Ks, many 5 milers, a few 4 milers, and way more than 100 5ks. Also, completed 2 short course tri’s back in 1989 and 1990 and many Douatholons (run-bike-run) back in the ‘90s.
Races planned for 2009 thru Marathon Weekend '10: haven’t made many plans but am signed up for the Uggly Mudder 7.5 mile trail run in 3 weeks and usually run the Broad Street 10 miler, Phila. Distance Run (half marathon – this year will be my 16th), a marathon (not committed to one yet), a couple of local 5Ks (including my first as a race director in May), and am driving myself nuts (I have the app filled out, the envelope addressed and stamped but can’t mail it in yet) about returning for Goofy # 3.
Goals for 2009: One running goal is to PR in the Marathon.
Some secret that no one knows about you that you don't mind sharing: I too dropped a substantial amount of weight (>50 pounds and have kept it off eversince) – but not as much as Rich and Bryan – in 1989 after being told I would have a heart attack by the time I was 35, I was only 30-years-old at the time. Cool thing here is that I finished my first Tri. (1 mile swim, 20 mile bike, 5 mile run – or in my case death crawl) 6 weeks later; came in 168th out of 170 finishers but finished ahead of the 60+ who didn’t.

Hi Mike!

OK, so can someone realllllly quickly just go over how we're supposed to log our minutes/miles? And who do we give all this info to? How often? (am I blind and did I miss the post? if i did...just point me in the right direction. No need to repeat!)

**OK I'm erasing a whole paragraph b/c apparently I WAS blind!! haha! oops! sorry guys! I guess now I just wanna know who to tell and how often, etc.**

So for example... for my yesterday workout...
I did an hour and a half of hard core yoga yesterday so I think I'm going to count it as an hour and 15 mins of actual exercise. There was about a total of 15 mins of warm up/cool down. Does that sound right?

Jenn: Here is what Bryan posted previously:

"Mileage and hours postings will follow the months. So that would be 1-7, 8-14, 15-21 and 22- the end of the month. Mileage can consist biking, running, walking, jogging, swimming. Just about anything that is of a cardiovascular nature is something that you can count. Races do count double. (At least, I haven't heard any change to that one yet.) We will start a new thread every month to try to keep the site manageable."

So, my undrestanding is we each keep track of our miles and minutes and then approximately once a week (on the 7th, 14th, 21st, and last day of the month) we post the totals. then Bryan has the unenviable job of compiling everyone's info.

Bryan, or anyone else, correct me if I'm wrong.

I must apologize to my new teammates. Our internet went out on Wednesday night, and we didn't get it fixed until today. So, sorry for the late introductions...

(Possibly some others)
Goals for 2009:

Find a good training plan for the WDW Marathon
Some secret that no one knows about you that you don't mind sharing:I am extremely competitive (ok that's not really a secret, but it's the only thing I could think of)

Hey team.

Just got back from a very cold 5K. I have to remember to keep track of this stuff for recording:crazy2:

How do we count strenght training??? Or do we???

Our internet went out on Wednesday night, and we didn't get it fixed until today. So, sorry for the late introductions...

Oh. My. Gosh. After a day or two without the internet I start to get all twitchy. Welcome back!

Ronda

What a great, wonderful day the Ducks are having!! I have two quotes that I am thinking of right now. See if anyone can guess where they come from. 1) "It's going to be a great, big beautiful tomorrow!" and 2) "Ducks Fly Together" Ok. There they are. Any ideas? Part 2 of our game is on. (Ain't I a devil?:hyper: )

Kim Your strength training counts in with your hours. Ex: You spent 3 hours strength training and 5 hours walking/running so you would be able to count for 8 hours for that week. Hopefully, that will help and make sense. Good questions though.

Carol I imagine your current weather conditions can somewhat relate to your moniker. I think we have something in common. We are both very competitive. That's cool. We can use that motivation to do more and more. This is going to be fun. Glad you are on the team!!

Jenn in NJ :hyper: :hyper: I need more caffeine. Please help me find more caffeine!:hyper: :hyper: :rotfl2: Love me? Who loves me? I don't know of anyone who actually loves me? What do you know? Who have you been talking too? On second thought, maybe I don't need anymore caffeine for today.:rotfl: :rotfl2: :lmao:

Mike I am so glad you have decided to stay on the team again this year. I really think you ought to go Goofy one more time. Just one more round, you know. As Rocky would say "I didn't here no bell. One more round." (I am full of quotes tonight for some reason. Oh well. I'm having a blast!) What ever you do, I just want to be able to meet you while we are down there since I wasn't able to meet you this past race.

Ronda Great explanation but honestly, I enjoy it. I am the one that will go to all of the teams to see how they are doing just to see if I need to add to my intensity and boost up my miles. I know I can't win. Not with the miles that Rich and Augie put up but I do want to improve as much as I can.

My Update Today was a light night at the gym. I didn't do any strength training tonight but I was able to get in another 25 miles.

I love reading and hearing all of your stories. It is great to have this opportunity to get to know one another. If you can and want to, post a pic or two as well. I think my mug has been posted enough for anyone's tastes but we haven't seen the rest. That could complete the puzzle. Or we could use it as a before and after. Whatever you decide though is fine with me.

Hope you all have a great night!
Bryan:crazy2: :joker:
