I just got back from my first solo trip to WDW. I stayed five nights in a studio at OKW (fantastic) and two nights at the Hilton near Downtown Disney. The food at Olivia's at OKW was great. I got a lot of "Welcome Home" greetings from the CMs. The bus service to and from the parks was not bad. I did not have to wait for more than fifteen (15) minutes for a bus. If you stay at one of the resorts near Downtown Disney, the first stop is at the Hilton which is good because their bus got really crowded!

This was my first visit to the World without my fifteen year old son. I have to admit I missed him a lot. He's at that age where going to WDW with mom is not cool. I will be going back in June for a convention and he said he might want to go with me then.

I felt kinda strange the first two days being alone in the parks, but the feeling wore off. I went to Epcot for two (2) days and took the Keys to the Kingdom tour at MK (I would highly recommend this tour and Robin our tourguide). Test Track was down for the week until Saturday the 9th, but I did not want to mess with the crowds just to ride it.

I did one character meal (lunch at the Garden Grill in The Land at Epcot) and I have to say I had a ball. The food was very good and the characters would come by and sit with me for a while to give me some company.

Although I'd like to have company sometimes while at WDW, I'm now okay with going by myself!

I really admire you eating sit-down on your first solo trip. I've gone solo 4 times, and it took until my last trip before I could somewhat enjoy eating sit-down. But I've never been uncomfortable solo in the parks, except maybe a little self-conscious in Fantasyland. But I'd better get used to that! DH says there's no way he'll go with me to ride Cinderellas Carousel or Dumbo, and those are 2 of my favorite rides. Did you do any of the rides in Fantasyland?

Deb,

At MK, I ate at the Columbia House twice, once with the tour group (lunch was included in the tour) and then later on in the week when I was alone. The fish, chicken and fries basket was really good.

At Epcot, I ate at the Italian restaurant on my second visit. I'm not a very adverturous eater so I ordered the spaghetti and meatballs. Excellent!

At AK I went to the Tusker House for the rotisserie chicken, green beans and mashed potatoes. It was a great meal for a great price (spent less than $10 with the drink).

I ate at the Sci Fi Drive In at MGM Disney Studios. I sat in the back seat of one of the cars and had a burger, fries and milkshake. Kind of pricey, but the atmosphere was worth it.

I can honestly say that I did not have any bad experiences on my trip. CMs were very courteous and helpful. Since I was alone, I tended to be the first or last person on an attraction (I didn't have to try to keep up with anyone).

Simba's Mom,

Unfortunately I didn't ride anything in Fantasyland, but I was able to go into attractions I didn't know existed in the parks. My son only wants to ride the roller coasters.

I'm glad to hear you had a great time.....:)

Rhonda -

I think I was on the Keys to the Kingdom tour with you! March 5th, 9:30AM tour with Robin. My husband, Craig, was the only one with shorts on (and the heavily tatoo'd legs), that Robin kept pointing out because it was such a chilly day!

Glad you had a great trip!

I know what you mean.;) I get to see some of the shows at Epcot, I had never seen before, cause the kids didn't want to sit for too long! :D

Sounds like you had a great trip. I loved my solo character meal at CP.

Hey Krissy,

Yes we were on the same tour! Wasn't it great? I might do it again in June with my son (he'll be sixteen by then). Robin was a really good guide and I hope I can get her again. Hope you and Craig had a blast!

Hi Rhonda!

Craig and I had a fantastic time! To bad we didn't recognize each other as DIS members. I usually have my lime green ribbons attached to my backpack, but we had spent the week prior with my parents in the Florida Keys, and after all that relaxation, I was not as organized as I usually am!

I think Keys to the Kingdom would be a great tour to take with your son. Craig continues to spout off some of the facts that we learned on the tour. At the end of the tour, we went back to Haunted Mansion to really take a good second look at some of the secrets! And we watched the parade with awhole new perspective.

Next time - I'm thinking Backstage Magic!

Enjoy your next trip, Krissy :earsgirl:

I have a lot of admiration for you going by yourself. My main worry would be getting lonely while watching everyone sharing experiences with friends/family. Were you able to start conversations with others in line for rides, shows, etc.?
