We checked in on Sunday Feb 19th. I had requested beach cottages in the 1400's and 1500's and we got Beach Cottage #1250. I was initially dissapointed :worried: because I thought that the traffic to and from things like Campfire would be a distraction. WOW was I wrong! :teeth: BC 1250 was simply wonderful. If you can stay there and splurge, it is well worth it. We travelled with another family and the biggest decision of the week was to decide which rooms we should take. How funny is that! :rotfl2:

The BC 1250 was all in order, we found out later that they had just refurb’d it the week before. The views were like no other. We actually kept our door open in the evening and fell asleep to the waves crashing. And yes NO BUGS!! :thumbsup2

The weather for the week was a chilly 71 (CM Amanda was calling us from the North NUTS for swimming that day) :hyper: or a warm 84 all week :cool2: . Only really one overcast day, this was Friday the 24th. We checked out on Sat the 25th for a day at Seaworld and a 6 hour stay at Pop Century (we had that wicked 6am flight on Sun - Yikes).

The CM’s at VB are AWESOME. This was our 5th visit in 3 years and the CM’s remembered my son and daughters names and were super friendly as always! Linda and Amanda are their favorites!!!!

The pool was crowded with all sorts from primarily the Northeast (School break) and for the most part people were behaved (saving chairs and tables etc.). The crowd this year was different than last year interestingly enough; last year the resort was at capacity and the pool was empty (Older/retired crowd and Spring Training Crowd); where this year there were more families.

Also, for those of you that have travelled to VB in the summer there was NO LINE for the UnBirthday party! It was walk up and sign up. Dad didn’t have to get relegated to waiting in line for an hour for sign up. Another thing to note there were not as many activities this time around, especially for the under 6 crowd. This is not the case for the summer and I don’t remember if it was this way last year when we went during President’s week. I’ll just have to make a mental note of it next year.

Well I have only have 20 days to start reserving at my 11 month window for next years vacation to VB. Maybe I can even convince my DW to book the Beach Cottage again!

That sounds like a wonderful vacation!!!

It's my hope that we get a BC as a way to celebrate our 40th Anniversary in June '08. Messages like yours just make me wish time would fly!!

That sounds wonderful. I'm so glad that you had a good time at VB.

Do you have any pictures? These Beach Cottages sound Beautiful. I would love to see what they actually look like. How many are there? Are they really that difficult to book?

From what I have read on posts you can only get a Beach cottage if you can book at the 11 month window unless it is the very slow time of year.

I just love VB and wish I could live there in a beach cottage! :thumbsup2

We're going with friends this summer and have booked two beach cottages. (we both have VB points). Another family may join us for part of the vacation and we will each take turns cooking a big meal. I'm sure we will eat out - at least the adults. Oh the joys of having built in teenage babysitters!

Oh I'm so jealous!! Those BC's are gorgeous!! I have been drooling over a VB contract so we could reserve a BC some day.

We were actually there the same time, another NE family on school break. Staying Sat-Thurs in 2 connecting OVIRs. We were lucky enough to get them connecting but with a great view. We were on the 4th floor smack dab in the center of the resort. Two out of three in that curved balcony at the top. We had a great time as well. Although we might be from farther north because I don't remember any cold weather - swimming weather all the way for us! (there were a couple mornings with some fog)

I thought BC 1450 looked a bit too high traffic being right next to the pool. I would love to try it out some time to see! :teeth

What do you think of Shutters?

I think is ok, actually the food has improved over the years. May be a bit overpriced but you can't beat the location!!!! :)

# 1450 is GREAT!!! -- I was there last month! --Shutters is really, really good too! :)

I wondered what others thought about Shutters. We ate at there 3 out of 5 nights, not wanting to waste precious beach/pool time. They had enough variety (even for vegetarian DH) that we were happy eating there for 3 nights. I had fish 2 nights that was really good and steak another that was really not so good. The service was very friendly but overwelmed one night and confused/absent minded another. Perhaps they were getting used to the first crowds of Spring.

We also orderd pizza delivered from Orchid Island Pizza next door and ate it on the beach. It was a fun picnic dinner.

The only other night we went to Capt. Hiram Sand Bar, which was just fun.

Mahusky- How difficult is it to reserve a BC at 11 months? Just wondering incase I can convince DH that we should commit some $$ to a VB contract. He really like it there but we already have 300 pts at BCV.

I think there's only 5 or 6 cottages ? Someone correct me if I'm wrong----haven't been there since 2000.
Here are some pics I snapped at that time :

These might give you a bit of an idea what they look like. The views from the upper balcony are fantastic.

Thanks for Posting. I can see why these places are so popular!

I actually book the BC for President Day week at the 10 month window. So not difficult at all!! :teeth:

Funny you described my situation of last year to the tee.... we did Presidents Day vacation in VB last year and decided to buy points immediately. It took a little longer than I expected and I was sweating bullets when I made the call at the 10 month window!!

Hey I was just reading that Mouseplanet BC Link and 1st off I said Hey that is BC 1250!!! The one I stayed in! :thumbsup2 Second point regarding the foliage.... there is now only about 7 ft of greenery to the beach. From the upper deck it almost feels like you can jump to the sand!

Thanks for this post. I am glad you had a good time. We are going the first week of April. I am soooooo excited.:cool1:

You will LOVE VB! Just don't tell to many people. :rotfl2: I want to keep it all to myself :lmao:

Enjoy your vacation!

Wow, this post gets me so ready for our trip to Vero in the first week of April!   I am concerned that I have not made any dinner ressies for Shutters or Sonya's yet. Just hard to plan what we will be doing since this is our first VB trip. I guess I need to get on the ball with that. Any suggestions?
I wish one day to get a beach cottage for a extended family trip.
Glad you had a great time!

In our 5 trips to VB I have never had any issues booking Sonya's or Shutters if you are flexible. If you have a large party I would call ahead. You can call the main number and get transferred to the Dining Ressies line. Also, the early seating for Saturday's Chartacter Breakfast fills up fast.

During our trip we were able to stop by the podium or call in the afternoon and make a reservation for that evening.
