Hi guys.. this coming summer I am planning on driving from the SF Bay Area to Texas.. as far south as Weslaco, then up to Illinois and Wisconsin then head back west. I am taking my then 16 y/o ds and 13 y/o dd. DH can not take a vacation this year. We are planning to visit relatives along the way. This will include ds and grandson in Texas and lots of family in Illinois and Wisconsin. I am hoping to leave July 31 and have up to 3 weeks to complete this trip. I am doing this drive so that I can have my van with it's hand controls and my power wheelchair with me. My eldest dd-23 may meet us in Texas then travel in Illinois and Wisconsin with us. Ds will have his license so he can help with the driving too.
So do any of you know good travel planning, mapping sites?? I use Yahoo maps all the time with good success. I was wondering if there was a site that would have hotels, attractions and resteraunts in one complete site. You all are good at these things and ALWAYS have grand ideas and suggestions.

Thanks so much!
Joan

Hi Joan!

Not making it to Hawaii next year, huh?

Have you tried Mapquest? I use it more for driving directions, but I think there's a function to check the nearest hotels, attractions, etc. Also, if you belong to AAA, you can request a TripTik from them, though it's just driving directions. Not sure if they have a system to show hotels, etc.

Happy planning!

A word to the wise as far as some of those mapped out directions...check a real map along with the directions they give. Sometimes there are better routes & we have gotten wrong directions from MapQuest.

Happy planning!

Excellent advice Mystery Machine. We've had problems with some of our Mapquest generated maps.

I don't know of any travel sites, mamajoan

Sorry to say that we won't be going to Hawaii until 2004.. cross your fingers!!!

Thanks guys for your advice. As for MapQuest.. yup I try to double check the map directions.. MapQuest has taken me the "long way" more than once.

Anybody else have some ideas??

I would join AAA and get their trip planning advise! With all the driving you are going to do, it wouldn't be a bad idea!:)
