Trip Insurance

Hello,

We are considering renting a studio from DVC broker and as we know they have a no-refund policy. So, looking at getting trip insurance and wondering exactly where to look for the best one and what they usually cover.

Example, if there was a death in the family or if someone got sick or we simply had to cancel the trip, does the trip insurance refund you the value of your trip (lodging, tickets, etc)?

We have never done this before so we want to find out all the facts before we go ahead and book a non-refundable room.

Just to be clear, are you only looking for cancellation insurance or trip interruption as well? There have been quite a few threads on insurance in the last couple of months- you could try doing a search for them. Many Disers have recommended insuremytrip.com as a reputable source of well priced trip insurance. You can also look at the amount/limits of insurance that your credit card (the one you used to pay for your trip) might cover.

OOPs- just saw that you're from Canada, too. We have a platinum visa that has great trip insurance and we can purchase extra if we go over the limit. I believe that many of the banks sell trip insurance as well- I know RBC does. CAA also sells insurance. You can purchase different combinations of coverage that can include trip cancellation, trip interruption, baggage loss and medical. Cancellation insurance would cover your airfare and hotel package (including tickets) that you have purchased before your departure. I think it is vital for any Canadian travelling outside their province to also have a generous medical insurance policy as well.(voice of experience talking on this one )

The weather inFL is so unperdictable with hurricanes etc. I would never book a room/trip that wasn't fully insured.
