Snakes- I know there are a lot of people that are scared of them, but they are such beneficial creatures and will generally leave you alone if you leave them alone. A simple spray of the hose is often enough to get them moving on their way. The honest reality...if you find a snake, they are likely there doing some free pest control. I am in a local snake group on Facebook that helps educate people on the different types of snakes (as well as offers assistance in relocating nuisance ones) so that people will stop killing them....especially the nonvenomous ones people tend to misidentify.
The forest- I've said before that I live in a densely forested suburb. There are so many parts, especially in the areas I take my walks, that look like something out of a Tolkien book or a Tinkerbell story. I just floors me to be out there, surrounded by all of the tall tree, vines, and scrub and be so close to a huge city. The forest also supports all of the wildlife that makes our town and trails so special.
The river and its tributaries- Part of our rich little ecosystem and wildlife base is due in part to the river, lakes, and other tributaries feeding this burb. People go out of their way to come up to some of the public parks up here (as well as sneak into the residents only ones) to go bird watching. Birds of prey like various owls and hawks are super common, but every now and then, we get treated to a bald eagle. There's all kinds of land animals lurking about...like deer, opossums, armadillos, coyotes, bobcats, and feral hogs, but sometimes we're even treated to things like river otters. There's more, but you get the idea and without all of that water, much of it would not be around.
