Do you recommend trip insurance for an August WDW vacation? I have not purchased before - but fear the HURRICANES! Any advice/input appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

All Star Sports - August 17-22, 2006

we never buy packages so we have never bought trip insurance before, but because of the free dining offer and my family is having some health issues and it being during hurricane season, we went ahead and bought the insurance this time. It really wasn't as expensive as I thought it would be, we are paying about $95 of our family of 4. I used the link from mousesavers to buy it. You could shop several different plans and pick the one that you like best.

We are also going in August and will add the insurance to our package when our final payment is due in July. I figure the little amount it costs, why not... better safe then sorry in this day and age! :sunny: :dumbo:

I also got the insurance, got it from disney but they sell it other places too. I figure it was worth it because i am going in August also.

I insured our August trip. For myself and my son it was $50 through travelguard.com. Disney uses the same company but they charge $59 and since I booked my airfare seperate it would not have covered it through Disney. It depends on the cost and number of people. If you want full coverage at a lower cost you need to insure it before 2 weeks after putting down your deposit. The lady from travelguard told me that my son was free since I purchased the insurance a week after deposit otherwise I would have had to pay for him if I waited more than 2 weeks. She also talked about some of the coverage amounts going down. If you go to insuremytrip.com they have a comparison sheet where you put in who is traveling etc and it will show you prices. One other thing to keep in mind is that if Disney closes the parks or flights get cancelled both Disney and the airline will work with you and you shouldn't lose any money. It is health and other reasons you should worry more about. I would hope Disney would never have to close for an extended amount of time due to weather.

HTH,
Angela

I insured our trip because it's costing us a large chunk of change plus my parents are elderly. I pray that everything goes well but it put's my mind at ease that we have it.

We got it (through Disney) I look at it this way............If you get it, you don't need it, If you don't get it you usually need it! :rotfl:

Just curious, what all does the trip insurance cover? Actually, I've never heard of it. Then again, I've never stayed onsite yet either.

I am going in September and purchased the insurance, even though I haven't ever done so before. I was there last October, and while we didn't get the hurricanes directly, we were close. Since booking a package, highly recommended. I got my trip insurance through AAA and paid $30 less than what Disney was charging, same coverage. Make sure you get trip cancellation/interruption.

We are driving and have reservations at POR 9/24-9/29 with 6 days of park hopper tickets & free dining.

From what I've read, if you have to cancel less then 6 days before your trip, the cancellation fee is $200. But our travel agent said there might be other fees. Has anyone had to cancel & did not have insurance. If so, what was the cancellation fee?

Still trying to decide on whether to get the insurance or not. :confused3

This may help some of you, I got the free dining too, here is the info:

if $200 is all we would lose, then the insurance is probably not worth it but what bothers me is the "other fees" that might be charged! sigh Guess I'll find some cheap insurance just in case. thank you

Thanks for the ideas on where to go! I'm not doing a package, and wasn't sure how to get insurance...

Smiles :)

We bought it and unfortuantely we did have to use it. We were supposed to go on the Disney Wonder 4 night cruise back in April. All of my family got a stomach bug and we had to cancel the day before we were departing. As for a Disney vacation, I would take the insurance if we were buying a package and airtickets, etc... We usually only do the resort, as we have annual passes. We figure that if we had to cancel our reservation, we could always reschedule for another date and not loose our deposit. FYI-it took about 1 month for us to get our money back. We(everyone that was going on the cruise) got all of our money except for the cost of the insurance. Well worth it. Hope this helps!! :wave2:

We've had insurance on our last 2 trips and also added it for this upcoming trip in August. You just never know what could happen and for us, it's just part of the trip cost, I never break it down, it adds it automatically and now you can decline online, that's new since many complained about the automatic adding to your trip cost.

We were there for hurricane Frances at CBR, 2 days in our resort room and it was an experience. I wouldn't go without having it, just my 2cents!

We originally booked first week of December but first off, we can't wait that long :rotfl: 2nd, the free dining plan included!!

End of August - Sept 6-ish is our favorite time to go, 3rd time is a charm :)
Labor Day is busy at MK, but we just go elsewhere that day ;) , the weather is not too bad heatwise (humidity lives in KC lol)

We always purchase the insurance, you never know when something could come up. We like the feeling we are covered.
