I just scheduled our vacation using DVC points and I'm looking to purchase trip insurance. If I'm getting a quote for insurance, what should I use for the value of the trip? Should I use the actual value of the accomodations were I not using points, assuming that if I lose the points I may need to take the trip at the full price or should I use the "cost" of the points times the number of points used?

As an example, if the trip would cost $3500, but my "point value" for the trip is 300 points times a given value per point (say $8), which would be $2400.

Just looking for some thoughts...

DVC sells insurance that specifically covers points. The bad part is they only reimburse $5 per point. If you are getting insurance elsewhere, you need to talk to them about the value before buying. Normally insurance pays money you lost and you have to submit paperwork proving what you paid and how much of it you lost (sometimes you only lose a deposit on a regular hotel and that's all they reimburse). This situation would be different.
