Trip Insurance? If you were going in August would you get some?

We've always done safer months like May so the whole Huricane thing makes
me nervous. Does insurance usually cover if you are stuck in your hotel b/c the parks are closed? That is trip interuption I would think? Is this worth it?

That's interesting, here in the UK we HAVE to buy trip insurance or the travel companies won't let us travel. Is it optional in the US?

i always get trip insurance for anything longer than a weekend trip. it came in handy for my mom when she had to cancle a cruise because she found out she had cancer. got back the full price paid (less the cost of the insurance of course).

i have my current trip insurance info in front of me right now (wdw with dh and ds at beginning of august). it does specify that it covers cancellation and interruption due to "inclement weather conditions causing delay or cancellation of travel." for trip delay it will pay if the trip is delayed for more than 12 hrs for delay caused by "natural disaster." i used to live in so. fla. and still have family in various parts of the state...if a hurricane isn't considered a natural disaster, i don't know what is

i would say that for the little bit extra paid, it is worth it for the peace of mind. is there anyone else out there who has made claims on their trip insurance? i would be interested to know if there were any problems or extra long delays in getting their money back (i do know that you have to have receipts for incurred expenses). anyone else had personal experience with this for a wdw trip?

when i booked the trip through disney, it was offered to me (and if you get a price quote on their web page, they include it, but give you the option to opt out if you don't want it added). i think we paid all of $89 for me, dh and ds2 (while he is free in the parks and all, we paid for air fare for him, so it includes him, too). you should be able to get it through your travel agent, too. if whoever you book through doesn't offer info on it, ask about it.

We always take our trip insurance, you just never know what may happen and then you are covered if it does except of course, if it is excluded in one of the get out clauses.

we always take trip insurance. You never know what may happen...hurricanes, illness in family, death in family. I hate to think that way but we know of several people that have gotten called home from a trip. My mom just had a stroke (she's doing ok) and it makes you realize that things happen.

My DH and I always purchase the insurance. We use AAA and it cost about $90. Unfortunately, after 9/11/01 we had to reschedule and were glad we had it.

Since I booked my tickets through Expedia, we had to buy separate insurance for the tickets over the other insurance offered on the Disney site, but it was pretty cheap.
We have bought trip insurance ever since my sister in law was burned right before her wedding. There went her scuba diving honeymoon! They lost the full price of the trip. Lesson learned for everyone after that.
Stitch's Greatest Fa - if you have to buy it, do they jack up the price of it since it is not a choice? Or is it cheaper since everyone does have to get it? Just curious.

My DH and I got a $1000 check in the mail a couple of months ago from the insurance company for our cruise in January...we had weather delays on the way down and on the way back (we live in New England). This is the first time we had purchased trip insurance and we'll ALWAYS consider it for every future vacation. Much of it has to do with the time of year you travel and where you're traveling to and from but you also never know when a serious medical issue could arrise prior to your trip. If I know there will be minimal money forefeited if we have to cancel last minute I might not bother with the trip insurance but otherwise...absolutely!! One important note is that you have to buy trip insurance within so many days of booking in order to be covered for pre-existing conditions (someone please correct me if I don't have this exactly right).

If I booked the trip myself but I have AAA can I buy trip insurance through them? I am flying Delta and staying at POR. (I booked both of these myself) I am thinking of buying the trip insurance in case DS has any health issues.....flu, cough....anything mild is HUGE for him and could cause us to change trip dates. I also am a littel worried about the airlines (DELTA even though I have been told not to worry) and I am also worried about hurricanes. Anyone know if I can go through AAA if I am a memeber. If not any idea where I can purchase GOOD travle insurance for the 5 of us?? Thanks

I was looking at this yesterday and read the fine print on the AAA website. It says that in order to get their trip insurance that the trip must be booked through AAA. (Although, it never hurts to call your AAA travel agent and ask, just in case.)

I put a post over on the budget board to see if anyone had done the research on where the best place to get trip insurance was (I'm lazy and don't want to do the research, lol!) Mousesavers has a link to do compariston shopping, but my head was spinning when I was looking at it. So, if anyone knows, please share!

Ugh, guess I'll just have to devote an evening to figuring this all out!
