Trip Cancellation - Need your help!

I unfortunately had to cancel my upcoming September trip for personal reasons and had already paid $750 towards it - $500 on my credit card and $250 on an Amex gift card.

The problem I now face is that I must have discarded the gift card and no longer have access to the card number. 2 different "WDW Billing Specialists" have told me that there is nothing they can do, will not refund via a paper check and my only recourse is to either have it refunded to the original card or apply to a future vacation. ( Amex is unable to assist without the card numbers and WDW says they can't provide the number to me)

Haw anyone run into this issue before and if so - any suggestions as to how to recoup my $250?

Thanks!

Could they put the amount on a Disney gift card? I imagine not, but it would at least give you some control over the money. Sadly, this can be a lesson to all of us: keep track of your gift cards even after you've used them in case you need to cancel the trip!

As others have said your only option is to apply it to a future vacation. Hopefully you will be able to go again, but until then, just keep moving the date further out.

There is nothing we can do. They are correct. They can only refund it to the original card.
I agree with the others. Rather than lose the $250 apply it toward a future trip. They you can continue to reschedule that trip until you are ready to take it.
If this is not acceptable, I think you are out of luck

That sucks. I had actually thrown my first gift cards in the trash, but then went back and fished them out because I had this same fear.

Now it might be different with a disney gift card, maybe they could have applied my dgc funds to an entirely new card, but I decided to just stash the used cards until we get home from our trip just in case.

Good luck to you.

Never ditch old gift cards till they are actually used. Just some after the fact worthless information.

This is true of all gift cards. Where I work people try to hand them to the cashiers all the time, saying they are empty. Well if you have to return something that card is what the money goes back on.

I'm sorry OP but you are out of luck. I agree the best thing you can do is plan another trip as far out as possible. Otherwise that money is gone.

OP, I know you said Amex can't help you without the number, and WDW won't give you the number, but is it on an invoice/receipt by any chance? (Or even the last 4 digits from the card? Just wondering if Amex could help with the last four and the date it was used.)

Sorry you had to cancel, I've had to do that before. It stinks.
