Trip advisor reviews

Have you read most of the garbage on these boards? Or how about the people here on the dis who can't even get the names of the attractions right? This whole thread is ridiculous, and full of hypocrisy. Really? WOW! I'm quite surprised by this. Buy then again, I shouldn't be. Has anybody seen the other forum where people mock and make fun if disboarders? It paints a similar picture to what is being painted on this thread.

As a Top Contributor on Trip Advisor. I can say that most people with my status know what they are talking about. I've had more than 50,000 people read my reviews. Sure, some people are a bit misinformed when it comes to their reviews. But who isn't. I can't tell you how many purely stupid questions I've read here on the dis. They are by far more pathetic than some first-time reviews on TA. If one here wants a good laugh, they don't need to venture to another site. Just hit the back button, and scroll down until you see a question about anything that any everyday idiot can answer themselves without posting it here for twenty other fools to answer.

I think you missed the whole point of this thread. The OP started it because of her disbelief of misinformation; others contributed with funny, sad, and/or flat out wrong (info-wise) excerpts that they came across. I myself posted when I found a review where a person was just not happy that they had "mouses in costumes". It's Disney. The empire was founded because of one particular mouse.

TA should have a comments section for each review posted. So many people think FP+ is an extra cost. It's not. So many people think the monorail line runs the entire length of the resort. It doesn't. So many people think they're going to show up and not have to walk or wait in queues. That's false. The sad fact is that these people spent thousands of dollars on a vacation that left them unsatisfied because they didn't do any legwork before diving in.

Yes, people post questions on the DIS and yes, people sometimes post incorrect information, but that's what this board is here for. Posters answer questions, correct information, share their wealth of tips and tricks.

Years ago a co worker and her husband went to WDW on their honeymoon...my husband (now former!) and I had gone a couple of years before and told her how much fun we had.

She came back and they HATED it!!! Why? Because it was so big you had to take buses everywhere. She did NO research beforehand and thought it would be similar to Cedar Point or 6 Flags. :confused3

I The sad thing is that poster states they have been to WDW many times and stayed on site.

Yes I love the ones that try to Impress how knowledgeable they are about the parks because they have been so Y times since X. And then proceed to talk about a rookie error or not being able to navigate the transportation or just about anything.

But then I guess it's not so out of whack. My BiL Brian talks that way all the time. he has been at least 10 times and maybe as many as 20 since 1971, and he is clueless. He wanted to change our plans for lunch when he got to the park at 11a (I had already been in the park since RD, he wanted to be but he doesn't get up early on vacation so...) I was like NO I'm going to Lunch at Kona you can go try CRT or CP (don't remember which one he wanted.) I like Kona I planned on Kona, you told me you didn't want to do any character meals so I didn't schedule one.

When we met back up they ended up just grabbing something at Bill's or Ray's since "They must be having a special event since they are both full." That is what he told me. I tried to explain no they have been fully booked for 4-5 months, he then told me that I was the only one in the world that would even think to book an ADR 6 months out.

If they expect to be viewed as a reputable website, they really should edit their reviews more carefully, or at least add comments when info is completely wrong
Management is allowed to comment on each review. If they choose not to, that's on them. With thousands and thousands of reviews coming in, Trip Advisor takes a look at each one, but who are they to decide if the information is true or not? That's management's job. TripAdvisor one of the (if not THE) most reputable website for reviews out there.

When I plan trips to the Caribbean, I rely on reviews immensely. I've learned to look for patterns, read the management's response (once somebody complained that her MasterCard was charged three times...management pointed out that they don't accept MasterCard), and focus mainly on the distribution of reviews (thousands of excellents, and only four terribles? Good sign), and look at the posting history of the reviewer. Some people are just miserable people and aren't happy anywhere.

I just went over for a quick look, and do you know they have bugs outside at WDW? Bugs!!! Yes, that was a poster's complaint about POR. There were bugs outside. :rotfl2:

That, and the rooms are the same size as the rooms at the values (ha!) and that they had a long walk, at least 5 minutes, to the front of the resort. The sad thing is that poster states they have been to WDW many times and stayed on site.

I see you can ask the poster questions, so there is a way to comment a bit.

Yeah, I saw a couple of negative posts about WL that said the same thing. There's also one that says the room has 2 double beds, a small bathroom, and a TV and that was it. First of all, WL has queen beds. Second, there's also a table and two chairs. Third, what more did she expect a hotel room to have?

And I don't remember what hotel it was for, but I also saw one that complained that the poster felt like her family of four was on top of each other in the room. A hotel room would have to be pretty large for four people to not feel on top of each other after awhile.

And I quote...before I start laughing so much I can't breathe again...

"We will not be going back to Disney unless they put a cap on the amount of people they let in, about a sixteenth of what was in the park when we were there the third week in June."

:lmao::happytv::rotfl2:

:lmao::happytv::rotfl2:

I saw many complaining that "they should limit the number of people they let in", some saying to 10k a day, someone else said so no waits are over 30 minutes. Another reviewer complained because the MK had closed due to capacity when they arrived, and Disney wouldn't refund their ticket price.

If you want extra entertainment, read the TA reports of the various Disney resorts. SO MUCH FUN!!

Yep, every few months I go on TA to read the reviews of the Disney resorts. Or more specifically, I only read the poor reviews. And rest assured there are plenty of them, even for the Grand Floridian. A few valid points are raised, but for the most part, they're :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2: in their ridiculousness.

Never looked at any reviews of the parks, but this thread may influence me to do so. Sounds like a load of fun. :cool1:

They probably are comparing with the moving sidewalks at Universal.....Disney calls them trams.

But even universal only has those between citywalk and the parking garages. Nowhere else.

TripAdvisor one of the (if not THE) most reputable website for reviews out there.

Not for what I use it for, which is Disney. 'Land and 'World. If TA people say a hotel is good I go the opposite direction. And vice versa. Actually I just don't use it. I prefer message boards where people can correct misunderstandings rather than just read standalone reviews.

What is your problem? Have a glass of wine. Seriously. Don't bite my head off because I mentioned I get a good laugh about people who can't write & can't spell putting together illegible reviews, because most of the time they leave terrible reviews over things that are just ridiculous or outright lies.

Talk about having your knickers in a twist. Wow. Just Wow. I wish I had an idea of just what you consider garbage on these boards. Here's the big difference on the Dis, as compared to TA: these are a discussion board. People are free (within guidelines) to post questions or opinions. Many people come here to ask questions. They are not familiar with WDW, and are seeking answers. Others post opinions. Both of which you deem "pathetic or idiotic". But here's the clincher- On this site, both are open to responses. Questions (pathetic or not) are answered. If incorrect info is innocently offered by a poster, they are corrected quickly by others. Same thing with opinions- if someone offers an opinion that is "pathetic"- let's take your post as an example- others will chime in quickly with their response to it and either agree or disagree.

TA, OTOH, offers no such ability. Yes, you could add your own review specifically to respond to a specific review, but the review site is not set up for discussion.

While I am a lowly Senior Contributor at TA, but with almost double your number of people who have read my reviews, I have to agree with the posters here who say that the reviews about the Disney parks are full of unrealistic expectations and ridiculous inaccuracies. Mostly stemming from the poster's lack of research and planning before their trip. Now, if they had had the benefit of a few visits to the Dis before the trip, their reviews might have been very different indeed.

As much as I generally value the information I find on TA, I do so with a salt shaker at my side. Not just a measly grain or two. The ability to read reviews critically is paramount in separating the wheat from the chaff. The Disney reviews have an inordinately high percentage of chaff. And I highly doubt that the majority of these poor reviews are done by top contributors who are experts in everything to do with travel, such as yourself.

Anyone can simply look up the specs, as I did a few weeks ago myself, to know that this is simply not true. One can also stay back to back years at POP and then PO:FQ as well to see the difference in person, as I also did in '11 and '12. Perhaps you need a discerning eye to notice the difference, I don't know, but after staying at POP the prior year, the minute I walked into my room at PO:FQ, I definitely noticed the size difference and was glad, to be honest. The room was just the size for me at PO:FQ. I found POP's quarters to be a little cramped for my tastes and expectations - nothing that would prevent me from enjoying myself or go on Trip Adviser to complain about LOL, but just small enough to make me consider spending and saving a bit more to at least stay in a Moderate. It may only be a few extra inches but for me, they mattered - I guess it's a feng shui thing or something - just how I react when I open the door.

Well who poohed in your metamucil??? Crochety much??? We ask questions here so we can be informed and not be idiots and fools so we don't end up writting bad reviews. Why don't you go back to that "other forum where people mock and make fun of disboarders"? They sound like they would like you. Get over yourself!

Haha - someone seems to be a bit sensitive about their TA reviews :rotfl:

I agree with you point though - you see all of these same reviews no matter the site.

I have read dining reviews on this very site for the same restaurant at on almost the same day that will be completely opposite. "such and such" is a great place to eat - you can tell how great it is because it is packed. The next review: such and such place is over-rated because it's packed with people....

Every day there seems to be a new thread about how to stay dry on water rides which to me is one of the most ridiculous questions you could ask but obviously to others it is completely reasonable ...:confused3 :lmao:

The endless "agenda-battles" regarding Fast Pass and WDW/USO probably seem ridiculous to many.

All around whenever you have so many different people posting you are going to get a great variety of perspective and knowledge levels.

Personally I love the DIS and the review sites but you really have to take everything with a grain of salt....

My point in starting this post was not making fun of people ...

I shouldn't bother posting, but ah....that's kind of the direction this thread took. 'We're all so smart because we know FP is free.' :confused3 Seriously?

Why would anyone assume misinformation on TA (or here) is accidental?
If I was in competition with WDW, or any business, I'd have a pretty strong incentive to post intentional misinformation.

I cannot believe how many reviews complain about there *only* being hamburgers to eat.

:rotfl2:

Just yesterday, somebody posted on the DIS that all kids QS meals were chicken nuggets/fries and burgers - or something very close to that. I know enough about TA to not trust any one review....but I also know enough about the DIS to question what gets posted here.

Simply put, the DIS is no stranger to misinformation or mean-spirited posters.

It's also no stranger to those who ACT like they know all there is to know about WDW, but really don't. I've read plenty of posts form folks who post as though they know about WDW, when they've only been once or twice. :sad2:

But then, maybe you haven't been on the DIS as long as I have?

Very well said. The biggest problem I had with the reviews was the misinformation they are giving to their readers.

WTH? At least people here ASK if they're not sure of something, that's what we're all here for! My point in starting this post was not making fun of people but being frustrated I couldn't give them correct information! Like the poster just after you said we wish WDW guests had the information they needed to utilize all the options like FP+.

There has been plenty of mocking and making fun of people in this thread because they don't hang out on the Dis before their trips.

Until they've been there, most people have NO idea how large WDW is and how much planning it now takes.

I don't mock people because they aren't discerning enough to hang out on the Dis. :duck:

But I will, and do, mock people who invest thousands of dollars and valuable paid vacation days on a trip and then fail to do any research, whether it be a WDW trip or a visit to Timbuctoo. While I think the Dis is great, there are any number of websites with basic, accurate information. And I have yet to find a bookstore that didn't have half a shelf devoted to WDW guidebooks. At the very least spend a bit of time on the official site.

When I see someone whining and moaning over a bad trip, and it is due to unrealistic expectations and lack of research, you bet I'm going to mock.

The people who make me scratch my head are those who said FP was too expensive. I get they thought they might have to pay for it, but the first person they'd ask how much it cost would tell them it's FREE! Therefore you know they never even asked about it.

Yes WDW does take planning and they keep making so many changes that even a veteran guest could easily be confused if they haven't been there in a few years.
