Trip advisor reviews

The reviews DO make me wish there was some way I could help these people. Explain to them what they didn't understand so that they could do it properly the next time (like the fact that FP is free, how the DAS works, the fact that Disney doesn't turn away non-Americans on 4th of July...that was a real vent on TA).

Have you read most of the garbage on these boards? Or how about the people here on the dis who can't even get the names of the attractions right? This whole thread is ridiculous, and full of hypocrisy. Really? WOW! I'm quite surprised by this. Buy then again, I shouldn't be. Has anybody seen the other forum where people mock and make fun if disboarders? It paints a similar picture to what is being painted on this thread.

As a Top Contributor on Trip Advisor. I can say that most people with my status know what they are talking about. I've had more than 50,000 people read my reviews. Sure, some people are a bit misinformed when it comes to their reviews. But who isn't. I can't tell you how many purely stupid questions I've read here on the dis. They are by far more pathetic than some first-time reviews on TA. If one here wants a good laugh, they don't need to venture to another site. Just hit the back button, and scroll down until you see a question about anything that any everyday idiot can answer themselves without posting it here for twenty other fools to answer.

You are of course entitled to your opinion (that is one of the great things about the disboards), but there is no need for such nasty and rude comments. I've learned some valuable info on both sites...and I love being one of those supposed fools sharing the info I've learned. Especially, if it means helping someone make the most of their vacation.

I agree with you. I get sick of people complaining about Disney's food prices when they are very comparable to prices at any theme park. Drinks and food are actually more expensive at some arenas where concerts and shows are held.

Yup! I've noted that food prices at places we've visited were just as high or higher than WDW. Paid through the nose for food at museums, sporting events, zoos and Longwood Gardens. I remember when the kids were little taking them on the boardwalk in Wildwood (NJ) and commenting to my DH how we used $3 worth of tickets to put them on the little cars that go around in a circle for all of about 2mins. Talk about a rip-off!!
I took DD to see the Titanic exhibit in Phila. By the time I paid for parking, admission (the exhibit + general admission) and lunch it came to $120 and we were there only 4hrs! That's $60/person! When I averaged our last WDW trip (8 days in '12) it came to $75 per day per person and we got a room at POFQ, ALL DAY park admission, all transportation within the resort and food (free dining). Compared to the 4hrs at the museum and a crappy lunch in their cafeteria, WDW is a bargain!!!!

These people that complain about WDW prices need to get out a little more and see that WDW prices are comparible to ANYWHERE else in the realm of tourist attractions.

When people here post a QUESTION ("stupid" or not) they are openly admitting their ignorance on a certain subject and asking for help/clarification.
IMO, that is by far LESS pathetic than someone who is equally ignorant on a certain subject yet posts a review, stated as facts, what is in reality filled with inaccuracies and blatent untruths!!! Ex: "parades every hour!" in the parks, "no benches anywhere" "hardly any airconditioned places to escape the heat" "buying fastpasses"
As far as being a venue that helps persons educate themselves.... When Newbies come to DISboards to learn and come across anything posted here that is incorrect, it's usually quickly corrected by a subsequent poster. Ahh, immdediate clarification for the newbie reader! On the otherhand, if I were a Newbie reading those TripAdvisor reviews, frankly I wouldn't know how to sift fact from fiction! This makes those reviews rather useless for educating oneself.

We ate lunch at the Smithsonian last summer on a trip to DC...holy crap, it was over $50 for 4 of us at a counter service and my daughter was only 2, so she basically just had a snack. And honestly, the food was terrible.

We should have eaten at the food trucks outside. But yeah, WDW really isn't as bad as a lot of people make it out to be. It's expensive but not more so than any other tourist attraction!

And most, if not all, of WDW menus with prices are available online, so persons can "know before you go" AND this can be helpful if you want to be more budget-minded as far as food goes. My daughter and I have, in the past, looked at menus and decided in advance what we would like to split at which restaurants, since neither of us eat huge portions.

No benches is a valid complaint. We just returned and the lack of benches where they used to be was noticeable.

Make sure you also read for each individual park too! There is the reviews for WDW then for EP, MK, AK and DHS and well as each resort.

Aren't the bad ones hilarious!!

To everybody who took exception to my original comment: Obviously I struck a nerve with many of you. My intention was to point-out thy hypocrisy of some people who were making fun of people's reviews on Trip Advisor. In doing so, apparently I came-off as rude, arrogant and condescending.

It's nice to know I'm in such good company. :stir:

A few of my favorite quotes:

Magic Kingdom has not been updated since 1960, I think.
Hmmmm. 11 years before it opened.

I hate to write negative things about Disney World....But. We had a horrible time there at Christmas time. We only had two days there and they were cold and rainy.
Yes, it is Disney's fault that it rained. That makes it a terrible place.

you would have more fun riding a bike. most rides involve riding past scenes that haven't been updated since the park was opened and which look like they were made by a primary school class.
This one just made me laugh. Actually, his whole review was very well-written and entertaining.

only got on one ride the whole trip and we were there for 7 days
I'm just picturing this family returning to the parks day after day until FINALLY they get on a ride. What were they doing the whole time? Were the lines more than 72 hours long?

The petting zoo had goats and two miniature donkeys. None of them wanted to be touched.
That is just sad.

There were no characters walking around with little kids chasing after them like they depict in the commercials.
Several people referenced that it wasn't like it was in the commercials. I guess they really thought it would be that idyllic.

The next day and our last was at my personal favorite, Epcot which was only Epcot center when I was a boy but now is its own Them park.
What? Pretty sure it's still the same size it was in 1982.

we did purchase fast passes which cost a lot of money.
Interesting.

Disney Corporation will be getting a very detailed account of the Parks failure to live up to the name on those 'Fast Passes' we bought.
And another one.

Incidentally, the Merry Go Round lasted all of 3 revolutions. I know this because I waved to the in laws 3 times. Disgraceful.
I'm just picturing this guy collecting data for his bad review. And when I'm there in a couple of weeks, I'll be counting carousel revolutions.

To rent a golf cart to get around is $62 a day and none of this includes entry to the major attractions.
They expected theme park entrance for renting a golf cart at FW?

In any other city, the fire department would NEVER allow such massive crowds to be stuck in lines for so long.
:)

Then they took the time to build the Beast Castle from B & B and they don't make it a ride or an Attraction......No they make it a Private Club and Resturant you have to pay extra to join
That's why it's so hard to get a BOG ADR. We forgot to pay the club dues!

Really, I'm not trying to be judgmental. I believe that people who think WDW is terrible really did have an experience that didn't live up to their expectations and heat and crowds really can make you miserable. I just did get a chuckle out of reading the way some things were phrased. And some of them really left me scratching my head.

No benches is a valid complaint. We just returned and the lack of benches where they used to be was noticeable.

Then an accurate review should read "insuffienct benches for the number of people" not NO BENCHES. That statement is untrue and misleading to those who have never been. Similarly, one reviewer wrote that the attractions/rides are all 45 seconds or shorter. I mean, come on? Really? I know WDW is based on fairy tales but that doesn't mean the reviews should be "fairy tales"!

Most on this thread are taking exception to the blantant untruths stated in many of the bad tripadvisor reviews AND the fact that there is no means by which to add the correct and factual info (such as being able to comment beneath a misleading review).
So the untrue or broadly exaggerated information stands, mixed in with actual true information, and so, overall painting a very foggy picture for persons who have no idea what to expect from WDW.
I don't know about you, but if someone came as a guest to my home I would not want them spreading about on a public forum that my "entire house was filthy" because an unwashed glass was left in my sink by another guest. The equivalent of this is what I'm reading a lot of in these reviews.

Oh dear, I think I have stumbled upon a new addiction! The bad reviews are so interesting! I can't believe people think they have to pay for FPs! And one was complaining that it was so busy and "not even peak season" — in late June. That may not be the busiest time all year, but it's sure close!

Thank you for giving me yet another place to waste time online while counting down to my Disney trips :thumbsup2

I like to read the bad reviews of the Disney resorts I've stayed at and know I like. I only read the reviews that rate the hotel "Poor" and "Terrible" Hilarious. Someone whines about not getting a late check out at Bay Lake Tower so they could take their relatives to MCO. Uhh...it's a timeshare resort there are no late checkouts. Someone else complains that their four year old hurt his finger by slamming the bathroom door shut on it. Yeah, that's the resort's fault! The rooms should all be child and baby proofed like your home is!!

Thank you to everyone. I really got a chuckle from this thread.

I think people are getting confused with Six Flags or Universal where you do pay for fast passes (I know they don't call them fast passes, it's a Flash Pass or Front of Line pass, so please don't slam me).

:)

The real winner, as stated earlier in the thread, was the poster who said if what we're alive he be spinning in his grave!

Thats ridiuclous! If Walt were alive, he'd be 112 yrs old and we all know that people that old can't "SPIN"!! :rotfl2:

Hi all - I started to read this thread and was laughing along with the rest of you till I got to this post and just had to chime in.

I have not yet been to WDW, but am planning my first trip for Feb. 2015. It is thanks to boards like this that I can feel somewhat confident that I am actually making progress in my research - or that I knew I should even do some research at all! Since I have learned so much here, I am actually at the level to be able to laugh it off when you quote someone on TA that was suprised it was so hot in Florida or that July 4th was busy. Thanks to DisBoards I got a clue!

But when I first started planning, I had all those same "idiot" questions! I remember someone telling me I could not go from resort to resort in one ride, and I was baffled. WDW is overwhelming and unique; for some of us, our only comperable is a "park" like Cedar Point, or a "resort" like an all inclusive. So, even posters here with a million posts or reads all started the same place as me - the beginning, knowing nothing!

I DO second the poster that said how could you spend so much money on a trip and NOT even do a little research... in this day and age, NOT having a clue about MDE or the app or any informational website seems a little archaic...

So, in conclusion, I just wanted to say thanks to the posters here, and to this forum in general. Thanks for being patient with my questions and the questions of others!!! I've learned so much here and it does make me smile and feel good about myself and that I laugh a little when people find a popular restaurant full with no walk up seating the week of Xmas. But, I also feel bad for those people because I bet it was disappointing. Too bad they didn't know about this forum...

In a review for MK:
"Space mountain was down all day long. The rest of the rides consist of boats that have wooden characters bobbing around singing."

This poor person must have inadvertantly returned time after time to "It's a Small World", each time thinking that they were getting on a different ride :sad2:

Additionally, I've seen a number of reviewers from FL who complain about the extreme heat in the summertime. Makes me wonder?
