Tried the search- please update me on internet access at BCV

Hi: Going back to BCV the first of February. Our last trip was Dec 07, and since then I remember seeing that internet access in now free at the villas? Also has anyone used an airport with success? Spoiled by wireless, but can use an ethernet cable if I have to.

We were there in November and it was free. Not wireless though There is an ethernet cable stored in the closet. When you first launch your browser it will ask you to agree to the terms (one is the cost) but there is a note lower on the page that says access is free for DVC members staying on points.

No wireless, but you could bring your own router. We did that on our last trip, and it was the best thing we packed! We could surf anywhere in our room, and I loved sitting on the porch and surfing the net early in the morning.

So you just bring your router from home, hook the ethernet to the router and you'll have access?? Sounds like a good idea. Might be worth picking up a second router and stashing in my Pirate Booty Chest (a/k/a my owner's locker)

Yes on free and yes we used an airport express without problems in Dec.

Yep, that's all we did and DH and I were able to surf and work from both of our computers throughout the whole trip. It was wonderful! I picked up a cheap Netgear router, and now it's our travel router.

ETA: I did have some issues getting the Netgear router set up with my Mac since the software is PC-friendly, but a quick call to Netgear got me up and running in less than 15 minutes. So, I'd get it set up at home, and then you can just plug and play when you get there.

We have a MacBook Air and there is no hardwire connection. We have a router in the house but would prefer not to disconnect it and add another thing to the suitcase.

Netgear Router

You can watch for it to go on sale. It's not large or heavy at all, so it's really easy to toss in your suitcase.

Is the router you provided a link for specific to Mac's or will any ol' PC work? The price is very reasonable and I've got a little extra space left in my Owner's Locker...

It works with PCs and Macs. We had one of each hooked up to the router when we were at SSR the last time.

Thanks for the info. It looks like a good solution, but don't know if we will purchase one for the trip or not. DH does have a MacBook as his main computer but prefers to take the air on trips.

Although there is hardwire either net cable in the rooms, there is wireless available in the BC Lobby and Pool area. Does anyone know if the wireless internet is free for DVC members?? I'm guessing not.

No, the wireless internet is not free for DVC members. Only the access you get in your room is free.
