In the spirit of this board, we tried some new...for us...restaurants this trip. We have so many favorites we don't usually branch out much but thought we'd try some new spots.
Olivia's... my son and I spent 2 nights at OKW so we tried lunch and breakfast here. At lunch my son had a burger and fries and I tried the Cuban sandwich. Liked the Cuban sandwich but next time would try to spice it up somehow. My son loved his burger.
For breakfast he had the silver dollar pancakes with a scrambled egg on the side. I had the continental breakfast which is a pretty good value but the fruit didn't seem fresh. Had good service both times.
We tried Boatwright's for breakfast due to Uncleromulus's reviews. I tried that Blueprint omelet which was great. I had bell peppers, broccoli, cheddar cheese and spinach. The potatoes that accompanied the omelet were very good too. My son had pancakes that looked very fluffy. Service was good.
Le Cellier for dinner. Avoided this place when it was a cafeteria and took us a long time to try it after it became sitdown. We really enjoyed it. The best part was our server, Lynsey from Vancouver. She was really busy but still very attentive. There were some pretty demanding tables around us including one with a 6 or 7 year old who spent a lot of time practicing her cheers in the middle of the floor.
Anyway, she still found time to talk to us about wines in Canada and her hopes that Vancouver would get the Olympics. Congratulations to Lynsey and all of Vancouver on that which happened a couple of days after we dined there.
Anyway, our son had his usual cheeseburger I think?? My husband had the filet with mushroom rissotto which was great...we exchanged portions. I tried the other filet with cream cheese potatoes. The filet was cooked to order and flavorful but the potatoes were too salty for my taste.
Our other new spot was Crew' Cup at YC. THis was the find of our trip because we are members at BCV but have bemoaned the lack of a quick, easy meal. We do not like Beaches and Cream...the noise, limited menu, long waits, crowded conditions, short hours, etc! Anyway at Crew's Cup which is located adjacent to Yachtsman's Steakhouse, between noon and five they offer sandwiches, soups and salads. The menu really looked like the all day menu from room service. My son had a cheeseburger and I had a cold roast beef and cheddar cheese sandwich. The lounge is cool and charming...180 degrees from Beaches and Cream. After 5 pm the menu changes to appetizers only. We were also told they will do carryout orders. Our service was fine.
Enjoyed trying a few new restaurants!
