Tricky one this... driving test 1 week before holiday

I'm going to pass my driving test (hopefully!!!) a week before my holiday. Virgin mention it doesn't matter how long a person has been driving on their website. However, I won't have an official driving licence, only a paper one. That is another paper one, as well as the paper one I already own.

The question is, will they allow me to drive using just the two papers ones as I'm certain the DVLA will not replace my provisional with my full licence in a week.

Anyone clear on this?

I'm going to try and pull my test forward so I can give the DVLA enough time to replace the provisional with full licence. Three weeks should do. My wife is already a driver, but I really fancy driving too in the US.

If you check the Dollar website I am sure you have to have held a full licence for a year.

Dollar website says -

* Please ensure that you have available ID and a valid and full national driver's licence held for a minimum of 1 year (in case of a UK photo-card licence the card and paper counterpart) and that you are at least 21 years of age. If your driving licence is not written in English, you will need an International Driving Permit together with your national driving licence.

You will definitely need a full licence not just the provisional and pass certificate.

I needed a replacement license a week before we went to Florida, and the DVLA got it to me within 5 days! However it seems you're out of luck anyway with Dollar wanting you to have held it for a year.

Exactly!!! Every cloud!! My missus won't drive over there so i'm stuck sober, tho i think i'm going to do drinking around the world in Epcot and just take a taxi this time!!

I believe we travelled with Virgin so must have rented the car from Dollar

It's about 5 years ago so maybe they've changed the rules but I'm pretty sure that not all the companies want you to have a license for a year.

It's always worth asking when you arrive

Perhaps. As said, the virgin site says it doesn't matter how long I have been driving, but the poster above points out Dollar's website states otherwise.

I suppose I could just go along anyway and not say anything. Should there be an accident, I'm sure I'll be sued for £10m, which means I'll have to sue Virgin for £15m...
