Do you think dogs should be allowed in guests' rooms?

Well, I guess your friend will never stay in a hotel where humans have been.

People, human beings, are exposed to other human beings on a daily basis. We are even exposed to children and their by products and very much so at WDW. Those of us that do not have animals ( husbands excluded) in our homes or lives and go to WDW have not been exposed to pets in hotel rooms (unless sneaked in), just well behaved and well trained service animals. To equate humans and pets is insulting..imo...and should not factor into the discussion. Again, my opinion. These resorts, some that have been favorites for years, are no longer available to people with allergies and fears.

If a human with children has stayed in the room will you ask for a deep clean

Yes I would ask for a deep clean or another room if I walked in a room and there was a smell or stain(and yes have done before)

I believe many of us on this thread know our animals can be better behaved and not as messy as children yet there seem to be many opinions on this thread that all dogs will be smelly, messy, noisy when we have yet to see that happen with the new policy. Can it happen yes, and it might not.

We do not lump all children at Disney into a category so I say don’t do that with the dogs not yet encountered

Not apples to apples. Children have always been allowed at WDW. You KNOW what you're getting into when you book a WDW vacation: LOADS and LOADS of children. I'm sick of people comparing children to animals. Walt Disney World has always been a child-friendly destination. It has not always been a dog-friendly destination.

1. Children are animals, all humans are.
2. Of course children are different than dogs, but there are similarities that can be compared.
3. Just because children have always been allowed at WDW doesn't mean that some of them haven't had a negative impact on others' trips, similar to the concerns people have about dogs.
4. Just like people know what you're getting regarding children when you book a WDW vacation, people who book in the future will know what they are getting regarding dogs.
5. There are lots of valid reasons for not liking this new policy, especially for those who already had trips booked with no notice, but eventually that reason will be moot.
For the record, I am indifferent to this new policy, tending towards against. I just think that it is not invalid for people compare some aspects of children and dogs.

It's not abuse. If a dog is going to jump on a person, the person just lifts up their leg with the knee bent in front of them. They do not kick the dog or knee the dog. The dog is the one making contact, and instead of getting your chest to jump on, they only get your knee. The dog will not like it and therefore will learn very quickly that jumping on people is not pleasant. This is a well know training technique.
Whew!! Thank you for clarifying that!

It has never occurred to me as a possibility, but knowing what I know about my own self as a child, I probably should. I once sleep-walked at a hotel when I was 5 or so. Parents asked me where I was going. I said to get a drink of water. According to my parents, I then walked to the corner of the room and promptly urinated on the carpet.

I'm against this policy but I absolutely love dogs, so I hope when you say you will knee any dog that tries to jump on you that you're talking about ones that appear they are trying to attack you & not the precious, sweet ones just trying to say hello to you. Otherwise, that would sound like abuse. JMHO

It is not abuse (at least what I'm told by a trainer) to knee a dog. I wouldn't unless I thought they were going to jump on me. Dogs are not supposed to jump on people. The owners of precious sweet ones need to keep their pets on a short leash and away from me. I would kick a small dog that was going to bite. I trust no dogs except my daughters two lab rescues. That is only because I know them. And I've already kneed the newest one for jumping. She doesn't do it to me anymore.
Look, I've had pets my whole life. Had to take time off work when my 20 yr old cat passed away. I am the saver of animals. I take the old and sick ones no one wants and have huge vet bills to prove it. I don't hate dogs, I do fear them though.

Dogs live with people in all kinds of housing though. No special construction is needed

But I see your point that a newly-constructed dog resort wouldn't be "evicting" the anti-dogs-on-vacation people from their memories

They also could build outdoor ameneties specifically for dogs.

Received a call from Disney after sending an email expressing concerns b/c my daughter has an allergy. Cast member couldn't have been nicer. She deals with dog allergies too, so she could relate.

DISCLAIMER: I know there is a lot of conflicting info out there, all I can do is report how my conversation went and the info I received.

We are staying at AOA next month in a LM room. She assured me our situation was noted in our reservation and we are to be put in a dog free area. According to her, the select dog rooms will be in the Cars and LM areas at AOA. The others will be dog free. The dog rooms will be in specific sections, and will be reserved for those traveling with their dogs. Unless you ask for one, you are not going to be in a dog room.

I didn't ask about the other resorts.

I really appreciate Disney having someone take the time to reach out and discuss my concerns as opposed to some stock corporate email response you tend to get from companies. Also appreciate this wasn't a read the book of responses call, we had an actual conversation. I don't agree with the new policy, I don't get it, and hope it goes away after the 1-year trial is over, but I feel better about how Disney plans to accommodate our situation for our brief stay at AOA.

So,if all the non-dog rooms are booked ,but all the dog rooms are not, they're just going to let the available dog rooms sit empty and lose that money?

Don't see that happening.

I think we are in the early stages of the biggest headache Disney has ever brought upon themselves(even bigger than the firing of Off Kilter!lol).:)

Yeah, except my home resort is the Beach Club Villas, next door to Yacht Club. We share the area. I have no faith that Disney will keep the dogs off of the boardwalk, the beach, or the walkway to the Studios. I've been called by two different executive offices, DVC and George what's his name. Two different answers. So if they end up using the walkways, then I'm stuck in the room instead of the dogs.
...and that is why I cannot believe how poorly they chose the resorts to be included. Going from no dogs at all from one day to the next, to dogs at some of the largest resorts, resorts that share facilities with neighbor resorts - is just so poorly planned.
With POR, FQ is affected, and with Yacht Club, Beach Club is affected.
With CBR (and COR?) under construction, they have really taken all the Mods out of the running for people who don’t want to be at a Resort with dogs all over the common facilities, potential barking issues, or construction and related noise.
And next they have taken the most popular and newest budget Resort - AOA. Why oh why?

I agree with you on this being a mess for the reason you mentioned. Gonna take a lot of dogs to make up for empty YC rooms and Cars suites at peek times.

I do not want any dogs jumping on me ever. I don't care how precious or sweet you believe they are, I don't share your sentiments. You should respect my personal space, and keep your dog under control at all times .

Well Disney made their bed (pun intended :) ), and now they have to sleep in it. :jester::eek::cool:

Saying that, I have no contempt for Disney on this one. With the right adjustments this can make some guests very happy while not negatively impacting other guests. Not sure about Disney's bottom though.

I just wanted to highlight this.

And maybe give it a double thumbs up.

I got the same call and am also staying in a LM room in december. Except my CM told me it could never be guaranteed, but she would note it, and also put us in for a VIP cleaning. Its the conflicting responses that everyone is getting that is upsetting. And there is ALOT of conflicting info being thrown around depending which CM calls you.

That was the response that I got from the guest services person I talked to this weekend regarding our POR reservation next week. I think that they have to claim that it isn't guaranteed, but in reality, most likely they will be able to honor the request - I hope.

At the present time, cast members are still giving out conflicting information. What we know for sure is that pet friendly resorts allow two any breed, any size pet dogs alone in a room for seven hours, and barking for 30 minutes. As of right now the only way to be sure of a non pet room is to get switched to a non pet resort.

Hypothetical situation and how willDisney police this? I have seen dogs tied to light poles etc. while their owners run into a shop (usually coffee). If dogs are not allowed IN food court areas do you think people walking their dogs will tie them up outside the food court in what is technically a common area while they "just run in"? As a dog owner, if I can't get by what would be your best advice? Or do most owners keep dogs on a short leash in these cases?
