Trial Run for Dogs in Resort Rooms

I think we have different ideas of judgy, too! But like you said it's down to differing opinions and it's good we can express them here. Life would be very robotic if we were all the same. (That is more judgy! LOL)

Thank you for the warning, I need to change my hotel. I have a service dog, and was going to stay at POR and POFQ, we will stay at POFQ the whole time. I already have to deal with the non service dogs, now I have to also deal with the family pet dogs, when my dog is ready to relax after hours in the parks, being on rides and in kennels, hot distracted and tired, she just wants to relax, go potty and fall asleep, now she has to deal with dog distractions all night and when she wants to walk outside in a small place near the room.

This is a very bad idea. I hate Marriott and other hotels that allow dogs, my dog has been bite, I have been bite and my dog is not capable of working when another dog who's owner can not control them gets in our face barking and not allow me blind to get away. I also feel bad, yes dogs left hours and hours in rooms alone, dogs peeing on rugs, dog poop all over the resort, stained rugs and floors, chewed furniture and so much more.

This is the worst idea I can think of. So many guest will not follow rules and everyone thinks there dog is the best, I have a $60000 trained dog, and off harness she is like any other dog and has done things wrong, I can't imagine a dog who does not have training in the resort.

It's interesting to hear the perspective of someone with a service dog. Enjoy POFQ!

I agree. I don’t know how service dogs got lumped in with this new policy in this thread as something awful. They are a highly trained dog that is well maintained and is always with its human. I would imagine they have been deep cleaning the few rooms occupied by service dogs, because there haven’t been all that many (although to be fair, we’ve had people saying they have had allergy issues already so how deep that cleaning is, is still up for debate). Service dogs are a totally different thing than Joe Schmoe’s spoiled and untrained dog. There is really no comparison between the two.

As things are today, there is absolutely no way that Disney can know when you leave your room so there is no way to enforce the time limit, which makes this rule just a suggestion. (and surprisingly forgiving IMO). 7 hours? Dan

If Disney plans to deep clean a room once vacated by a family with dogs, how long will the room be out of service? After all, if deep cleaning includes shampooing the carpet, they have to allow for sufficient time for the carpet to thoroughly dry before assigning it to another guest. In the Florida humidity that can take a long time.

I'm not sure if you have read this entire thread. I have due to allergies and a current reservation at POR. Reasons it may negatively impact a WDW vacation:

Allergies
Fear of dogs
Religious customs
Dislike of animal smells, germs
Concern about fleas and ticks
No ability to change plans due to 48 hour notice.

Yes I did read so thanks. You know that not every resort will have animals. And you do know that the few resorts that will allow animals won't have animals in all rooms or all floors right.

So, there you have it. Take it with a grain of salt...we all know that info can vary greatly from Disney rep to Disney rep.

For the record, I am very against allowing dogs (other than service dogs) at any resort. I was hoping that booking a club level reservation would prevent us from getting a room that had previously been occupied by someone else's pet. Guess not.

How many people who book CL and bring a dog will be taking table scraps from the lounge back to the room for their dog to eat? haha!

Thanks for posting your chat with Disney regarding the Yacht Club. This means that dogs will be in the elevator and not restricted to the first floor rooms near the dog relief areas.

Hmmm. Maybe. But who will be monitoring this? Or I guess they could check this if a complaint is made about a barking dog in a particular room.

I think your assertion here that most dog owners who travel with their pets are responsible owners may not have merit. I only know two people who travel with their dogs. Their dogs are obnoxious. They love their dogs dearly and are well-meaning people, but they are selectively deaf and blind to the incessant barking, jumping, and “piddling” their dogs constantly do because “they’re just so happy and excited.” When I saw this posting, it was them who came to mind. d.

And you're going to validate everyone's experience with two examples. Seems like an awfully small sample size.

I would prefer they keep it at 1 resort, but I don’t have such a high opinion of myself that I believe Disney gives 1 fig about my opinion.

In a round about way you were implying we were bad people who should visit a dog shelter (for whatever reason), b/c we want a dog-free vacation.

We own DVC & if they expand this into the DVC resorts we will sell. Adults & children are hard enough on the resorts. I am not paying more dues so that someone can have their pet on vacation.

It would also prevent me from ever renting out my points as I can imagine being on the hook for damages done by someone’s dog - I take enough risk being the member on file with just humans in the room.

We’ve got substantial money invested in Disney, so yes I’d like to think that I can voice my opinions & defend myself from insinuations that I’m some type of animal hater - even if you don’t think my opinion is valid.

But you were treating my opinion as such. I think this is a good idea and if they choose to keep it at only 1 or 2 resorts then that's a great thing for people with animals.

I also was a DVC owner at one time and I vacation there every year so Disney has lots of my money too.

They might not know who left, but I they would be able to know how many people left. If there are 4 people registered to the room, and 4 magicbands checked out, then obviously no one is left behind to watch the dog.

Unless they hired the groundskeeper to come in and wait with the pooch!

We all know the 7 hours thing is unenforceable. Also, how will they know which dogs are paid and registered and which are not? I'm assuming they're going to be required to wear their pluto collar around the resort? I think it stinks that the service animals are getting lumped into this. I look forward to hearing from people with upcoming trips on how this is being implemented.

It wouldn't matter who left. But maybe they would be able to determine where room occupants are due to fp's. Although that wouldn't really matter when dogs can be left alone for 7 hours at a time.

Even if they can't pinpoint when someone leaves the room, they know when each guest in the room uses their magic band to get into a park, FP+, pay for things, etc. I think Disney even uses Magic Bands to see where park traffic is and if so, they probably can find anyone at anytime using their Magic Band tracking.

Thank you for posting this. I have always wondered about the affect on legitimate service dogs.

Oh I am a huge advocate of not bringing a dog to Disney, yet I do it out of absolute need. I have gone with and without my dog. But a real working dog compared to the non service service dogs is huge. And there is so much to worry about. Yes the dogs health, the kennels Disney supplies I think are great, but I worry about the health of my dog. I worry about her health, I come from WA and FL is a lot different, the heat, her paws, 10 miles a day on hot pavement, I have to grease her paws two or three times a day when there. How to get water to the dog, that I disney CM many of them are very very nice and bring ice and water to the kennel and when we stop to eat or another times, like at parades and such, they have been great.

I worry because WA does not have a heart worm problem, but FL does, but my school makes us do heart worm meds, but most pet owners don't. My school makes us do frontline or one of those expensive flea treatments, most pet owners don't.

I have had non service animals at Disney come flying towards us, barking, and scaring me who can not see, my dog does nothing without me giving it a command, so when a dog comes flying at me and I'm in a crowd and don't know how to get away, my dog and I both get scared. Okay now we will have that problem at the resort also.

As I say, my dog is not perfect, it has $60,000 worth of training, but it is a dog. Funny story, I was sitting in Epcot last May, early morning waiting for the tea tour to start so before that section of park opened, thank god. I thought I could trust my dog since it never did this before, so I told her down and very loosely had her leash. A bunnie ran right across her nose and she jumped up and ran after the bunny, scaring everyone around us, or maybe better word startaling everyone. I had her under control in less than a minute, but can you imagion that with a pet and a very in experienced owner when a bunnie runs across its nose at POR. No thank you.

Like I say, Disney is not even a place for service dogs, but in some cases we have no choice, my dog leads me all around and there is no way I could do 15 days without her. I already feel Disney should be kicking out the non service animals they allow in, those that bark, those that are not in control (within seconds, after the bunnie incident I have to say), those who are one person but need 5 different service animals. I can't for the life of me understand why anyone would want there dog at Disney. Those who are responsible pet owners, will either use the kennel or leave the dog at home. But there will be lots of barking dogs in rooms all day long.

Also, I will get less and less services with my real service animal, which I believe Disney has gone above and beyond what they need to do, if dogs become the norm, my dog will be seen as a pet not as a working dog who needs some special accommodations once in a while.

So based on recent posts you could have a dog in the room next to you and could see them in the hallway and in the lobby. They have to get to their rooms somehow. And what’s to stop the dog from staking claim to a nearby tree or potted plant?

While we were at Disney in August (Poly, BC) a couple of things...

1. Poly had great sound proofing. Never heard anyone else. Awesome
2. Beach Club ... huge gaps in doors. Connecting door to a family of six next door arguing and not going to bed until late. A family with a baby on the other side waking up crying multiple times. We didn't sleep much at all there. I could actually understand all the conversations, etc.
3. I can't imagine adding the sound of barking dogs.
4. While we were at Disney my ex brought his new puppy into my home 600 miles away multiple times (without my permission. That's a whole 'nother issue.). Since my cat was boarded while we were at Disney and we weren't due to pick her up for about 36 hours after we arrived home, my children and I were unsuspecting "blood meals" for the fleas that were waiting. Since we (my kids and I) aren't on flea medication, the fleas that bit us were able to lay eggs and so on. We were bitten badly and an infestion took over our house. Now, after Orkin and help from the vet and daily vacuuming and washing bedding for six weeks we are almost back to normal.

My point with #4 is that Disney won't know if pets have fleas or not. Fleas use people for blood meals.

All that said, we have stayed yearly at a pet-friendly house rental every summer for years but pretty much the same people stay for the same weeks each year so it isn't so random.
