Testing of new ADA friendlier park entry system
which should allow most individuals with disabilities to use the standard line

For some reason, the link you posted to the thread you started on the Rheme Parks Board did not work. Here is a different link.
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2839146

I would encourage people to post experiences to this thread as well as that thread. Since the Theme Parks Board already has several active threads on the subject of the new scanners, they may combine threads. Also, the Theme Parks Board is much busier, so inactive threads go to another page much faster (like sometimes within minutes).

I have not seen the new scanners in action, but they will be much easier for anyone who has trouble putting their pass into the slot or reaching to get it out of the machine on the current scanner.

i post here because this forum is better then the theme park thanks to sue hard work.

Their pic on twitter today showing wall up around this area not sure if the test is over or they going to set them up differently to see what they like. Again it could just be today they needed to do some repair but hopefully their still their.

Adding a little more information so people can see the new park entry system.
Link to DISNEY PROJECTS website, including a very short video of how it works and a number of pictures.

The Mickey head and finger scan area light up to let you know the scan was matched to the ticket and accepted.

Those pictures are from this thread.

Anyone know if these are on the right or left side and do you have to turn to face them or are they facing towards you.

I have not seen them yet, but there are more photos in the link in my last post. I tried to post more, but the pictures were gigantic, so I had to delete them

They have reconfigured them for more testing instead of them being on the side their now in the middle like a triangle. So our go to the left or right side again their testing to see which works best. It nice to see their still going to test it and not give up like they did with the other test they did. But with that test they learned things so if and when they put this in action it might look total different then they do know.

My thought about the first test was that they did not give up - it was a test and they used what they learned from it to redesign the process.
What they are testing now looks like a close to complete system/product that they are trying small changes on. As they try things and see how it works, they will make more small changes until they have the whole thing refined.

May be they didn't give up but I don't think they ran the test as long as this they took what they liked from the test and expanded on it by putting rifid to test. It looks like they are close to putting into operation. it be interesting to see if they try it at another park more guest use it if it can handle park hopping and see how fast it can handle guest at mk.

MK is likly to be the last one to get any changes to the turn styles just as it was the last to get the finger sacners both gen one and two.

I know I think it be a while before they start remodeling their turn styles it easy to do in Epcot because they had spaces where their was no turn styles and just gates. So they could do the test their it been to much to do it at any other park. It also be interesting to see how dhs will reconfigure their turn styles. Just how cramed in they have them now. I be their in two weeks and hope they still testing them. They should be open again after working out some bugs and rearrangeing them to be in the middle instead on the sides like they had them. I wonder if they could make two different heights so kids could use it to speed it up so the parents could do their scan and finger and then they just have to hold their ticket up to the reader.

Just wanted to add an update - the trial described in this thread has been stopped as of Dec. 10, 2011.
From what I had read on different threads, it seemed like the whole trial process, from reading the card to walking into the park did not go much quicker than the current way. I do not know exactly what they were testing - if it was the whole process, time, how easy it was or how well the cards read.
It is usual in Process Improvement to make a trial, step back and evaluate how the trial went, look at what worked well and what could be improved upon.
I expect there will probably be a more trials before they introduce the 'final product'.

I read on a different website that the area was fenced off for a few days. When the fences came down, the trial equipment was gone and the original card readers and turnstiles were back in place.

If anyone sees news of a new trial, please post it here.

The trial stopped before Dec 10. The area was walled off on Tues/Wed of this past week.

I have a concern. There does not seem to be an organized line of any sort. You just walk by it, scan, and go. This is a great concept, except.....

If you are in an ECV - how easy will it be to "pull up to the scanner, scan my ticket, back up into crowds of people (if they will move so that I can back up), and get in a straight moving line" to enter LIKE EVERYONE ELSE. I see no thoughts on this.

Please tell me that I'm overlooking something, and that I am wrong. I will feel a lot better if I'm wrong. I don't want to be the "oversight" AGAIN!

Thanks. The website I saw it on said it was 'back to usual' by December 10.
I was not sure just when it ended, so put Dec. 10 as the date.

I would not worry about it.

The pictures and information from this thread were from a trial That has now ended. We don't know what part of the process exactly they were testing.
So exactly how it will look and work are not known at this time.

It could go through many more changes before it reaches the final product.

I'm not sure what you mean about having to back up into the crowed from the looks of it it looked like you could pull up beside it scan your card and finger and then just drive right into the park.

We just left WDW today and did not see the trials at all at any park last week.

I wish they would get rid of the finger scanner part. It is impossible for one of my DS's to put his finger in the scanner and hold it there. He would also have a hard time holding his ticket up to the scanner.

Unfortunitly I don't think the finger scan part of the entrance process is going to go away, I've even herd rumors that it is going to be put into Disneyland/ DA at some point. The main reason for it is so that people can't sell used tickets as easily as in the past.

I doubt they will get rid of the finger scan as it helps cut down on fraud, however I have been told that for those with disabilities they can override the finger scan. I will post more this week when I am able to verify.

I do know Sea World can code a ticket to not ask for the finger scanner. Hopefully everything I have been told by WDW is true and they can do the same thing.

EDITED BY MODERATOR TO ADD: POSTS ARE SHOWING UP OUT OF ORDER. I REPLIED TO LIVNDISNEY TO VERIFY THAT WDW CAN OVERRIDE THE NEED TO TO DO THE FINGER SCAN.
BECAUSE OF A GLITCH IN THE BOARDS, MY REPLY TO HER IS SHOWING UP BEFORE HER POST.
THAT IS WHY I AM TAKING THE UNUSUAL STEP OF POSTING AN EDIT IN HER RESPONSE.
