Trend to not use google

It was an easy search. He didn't take the time to read.
Don't disagree but just about everything is an easy search, no? Just saying talk to older people enough who are less than comfortable with technology and try to explain to them how super easy it is to search and they may still stumble. I don't equate laziness to everything (it is at times but every time?) but perhaps you do 🤷‍♀️

Ehhh...I think this may be a little different. Figuring out retirement stuff can be a bit overwhelming and confusing. - I'm not familiar with KY in particular, but I'm guessing they're thinking they'll get a better understanding coming from ppl. who have gone through it as opposed to a manual that was written by ppl. who typically aren't sure themselves of the real process.
Nah, people give out the wrong info. The retirement page is pretty straight forward

Not exactly the same, but similar. I belong to a Kentucky teacher group on Facebook. I can’t tell you how many people post asking for retirement information, rather than simply going to the retirement website. It’s endless. I don’t get it.
I can actually understand this better. Sometimes official documents are written in a way that the ordinary person doesn’t understand what is being said. Heck, I was educated as a lawyer and there are government sites I don’t understand! They may be looking to have their interpretation confirmed or just have it interpreted for them.

If I had a question regarding my company's retirement benefits, I would probably attend one of the training sessions they usually hold or talk with someone in HR to get clarifications. Some companies also have an 800# where HR/benefit related questions can be asked. My least likely place for such information would be some random website/forum/chat room/social media group where I have no idea if what people are saying is factual or not. LOTS of people online like to sound like they are experts even when they NO idea what they are talking about. For something as important as making decisions about your retirement, I would only use official/reliable sources.

I doubt random strangers on some website will be responsible if they give you bad advice.

I haven't gone through all of the replies, but I have two categories for these people...

1. People closer to my age practicing learned helplessness- I see a lot of people posting examples they see on travel forums and groups where people ask the same questions over and over again vs. utilizing simple searches for the information. I see the same thing at work. There are self-starters who will do extensive research before coming to the group with questions. Then you've got the highly dependent people who will pose a question to the group without any effort on their part. I'm not sure how much is just pure laziness vs. learned helplessness fostered by people willing to do their research for them. In my early experiences with this in the workplace, I tried to empower these people to learn to use their tools and resources so they wouldn't be dependent on others for common solutions, but I've come to believe that it's something hardwired in some people.

2. Kids using other means to shortcut what we consider a common/normal approach- My teens are really the only ones I still keep pushing to find their own answers. I'll tell them that they have access to Google just like me. Of course, they often refuse to use Google like me. It's not a distrust thing either. It's just not as quick and streamlined as they'd like. Their approach is "Hey Siri." Even something like a coin flip is "Hey Siri, flip a coin." Siri isn't as reliable as my Google search methods, but I still think it's a step up from opting for a Reddit post over a Google search.
