Treehouse Villas and bugs

We are thinking of staying in a Treehouse Villa in late May. With all the flora and the fact that the area seems to be wetlands, do the bugs, mosquitos etc, overwhelm you if you sit out on the deck, especially in the early evening?

Welcome to the DIS! :welcome:

We stayed at the THV in Sept. and noticed no bugs at all. I was surprised. They must spray. We're going back to THV very soon and can not wait! They are magical!:wizard:

Welcome! I am allergic to Mosquitoes, and this happend before the treehouses were refurbished ( for our current enjoyment;) )

But, I was bitten while staying there by Deer Flys. They were terrible! and I had the worst reaction to them! They are brown, and larger than mosquitoes. It's the only time I have been bitten by any bugs at DW.

I know I had 6 or 7 bites and they stayed for about a week. I'd watch out for them if you have anyone that is sensitive. I did not see or get bit by any mosquitoes.:hippie:

We were there the week of Labor Day(9/6-11) and saw no bugs at all. It makes you wonder what chemicals we're breathing in.:upsidedow I choose not to think about it. :rolleyes1

;) Jiminy Cricket is heard at MK, and there's this attraction called Bug's Life at AK.
HTH ;)

We were there in late Aug/early Sept and no bug issues. The tree frogs, however were abundant and noisy!!! (I think they were a good source of keeping the bug population under control as they were always on the lights.) DH actually taped them on his iphone and we still listen to them occasionally. We enjoyed them and when we were watching for them, it seemed to make our walk back from the grandstand bus stop seem to take less time!

We were there in Nov. and had no bugs, however we were visited by treefrogs a couple of times!

I stayed in the old Treehouses in October of 1999. There were tons of mosquitos and those large spidery/flying/mosquito type bugs too..Perhaps they have "fixed" this problem from reading the previous posts.:confused3

Thank you for all your responses. We know Deer Flies here on Long Island and they are very nasty. We hadn't thought about the tree frogs and I assume the novelty wears off very quickly. How did you all enjoy your stay there? Is just having one close pool a big drawback?

If I understood Melnnyy correctly, her trip with deer flies was years ago in the old THVs.

The frogs were darling and not a problem at all. I think I saw two?? in a week.

My family absolutely loved THV. We loved it so much that we're going back later this month for another week. We're very excited about our second stay.

My biggest worry at the THV's would be snakes. I saw a snake near the water at another WDW resort once, so I know they are there. I'd be afraid that they would be around, or worse yet, get into one of the tree houses. Since our next trip will be with my 2 yr old grandson, I'm afraid of staying at THV, even though we own at SSR. Has anyone ever seen snakes near the tree houses?

We were there in January and didn't see any snakes, frogs or bugs of any kind. I'm sure this had to do with the fact that it got down to 32 degrees when we were there :lmao: brrrrrr.

We saw no snakes and after the first appearance of a treefrog (that startled my brother) we kind of enjoyed seeing them. We loved the THVs.

We were there last August. We saw no bugs (or snakes or other critters either). Mid-week we went over to meet with our DVC guide and told him where we were staying this trip. He said he had been there for a CM visit before they were open to guests and said that there were bugs then. So they must spray or do something. Whatever it is - it's pretty effective :thumbsup2

Oh, I almost forgot.... we did find a baby snapping turtle in the pool (less than 1 inch by one inch big). We handed him over to a worker to make sure he got to a swampy part of the area that would not involve him dying due to chlorine!!!!! And for the record, we loved the tree frogs! We went when it was hot and humid, so that is why I assume there were so many. We are planning on going back in the next few years....THV is one of our new favorites!!!!

This is a big concern of mine as well. I have read several responses to the negative though. But snakes do thrive in sunny Florida so I have been constantly grilling our two DGSs (5 & 8) to stay on the paths and not venture into the grass during our stay in November. Tree frogs and turtles I would love to see and bugs don't bite me so if there are any in late fall I guess I'll be having that beautiful deck all to myself. I am thrilled to read that most everyone who has stayed in the THV have absolutely loved them.

We stayed at THV in mid-June 09 just after they opened. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but we did have a problem with mosquitoes and bugs. All of us got bites especially DD13 and I who are sensitive to them. It was very hot and humid when we were there.

The other bug issue we had was our first night, we arrived back at the villa very late after closing MK. Our outside light was on and our entire door and surrounding area were completely covered with tiny green moths. I recommend keeping the light outside your door off to prevent this unless you like having them join you in your villa.
