If you are going to be placing a treadmill in a room with carpet, do you need to place a mat under the treadmill?

It will get pretty dirty on the back end, even onto the walls if you have it close enough to a wall. I have a mat under mine at the back (I have very light carpet) and it's amazing how much dirt piles up on that mat.

Well, DisneyBeagle, Pakey is probably right. I should have mentioned that I don't use my treadmill frequently, and that I have gray carpeting. Maybe, just to be safe, follow Pakey's advice.

Yes buy a mat. The carpet will be protected but more importantly the treadmill will be. The carpet fibers will get in the motor and will eventually shorten the life of the treadmill.

You know, I was going to say that about your treadmill but held back since I've already zapped you about shoulder pads. One insult a day is my limit, even for my good friends.

When my wife bought me a treadmill I converted one of the spare bedrooms into the 'treadmill' room. I got a special mat that I carefully placed on the floor, then I carefully placed the treadmill on the mat. I then placed a new lock on the entry door, and carefully locked the door to the treadmill room. I then, somewhat carelessly, lost the key. ;)

Well see, the only reason I agreed with you is 'cause you scared me. ;)

Legalsea:
You're wasting a valuable (and invaluable) piece of exercise equipment. You could be using it to hang clothes on. ;)
