Looking for a treadmill to get our excercise. My wife and I are looking for a durable treadmill. Any recomendation will be appreciated.

Tks,

P.S. Our prayers are with the residents of Florida. As I have an uncle in Orlando.

I have my nuclear stess test in the AM, I'll let you know what they use, LOL. :) Kidding aside, I have no idea, but know you will get some good thoughts here.

I switched from a treadmill to an elliptical machine. I can't tell you how much I love this machine for aerobic exercise. (i alternate weight training with aerobics).

I can't make a recommendation for you, just thought you might like to look into the elliptical machines instead. Tony Little's Gazelle looks good--very long stride. Mine is a shorter stride, because I didn't realize there was a difference when I bought it.

I have a SPIRIT treaddmill. It's about 15 years old and really great for hanging clothes on! I wish I had the time to use it :(

I have used a treadmill for physical therapy after a car accident years ago. I love them. But, the doctor told me not to use one too much because they are very hard on your knees. I would like to know if that (medical) opinion has changed. Does anyone know? I would love to have one too. Our winters are long and it is not conducive to walking outside for months.

I used to have one, but my doctor told me to get rid of it. I DID wreak my knees and arches. I need low impact excersice and I now use a bike.

OK, this was what I wanted to know. Thank you. I have thought about getting a stationary bike for home but I do not like that type of exercise nearly as much as I do walking. Oh well, I've got to get something going. Thanks very much!!

Look for a secondhand one. As someone said earlier, they use theirs to hang clothes on. You'd be surprised how many people buy them and hardly use them. You can pick them up at bargain prices.

I have a ProForm. Forget the series number, but it is pretty good sized, but they have smaller ones. I use it 3 or 4 times a week...not one piece of clothing is allowed on it!!:teeth:

I have had it for a little over 1 1/2 years, and I like it a lot. Got it at Sportmart.

The best treadmills in the industry are made by Precor. They aren't cheap ($2500 and up), but they last the longest and are the least likley to cause injury. We couldn't afford one when we bought ours, but that is what I would buy now if I could.

We have a Reabock Treadmill. Mandy runs on it every morning (I prefer to run outside). We are very happy with it and it has held up very well for 3 years now. It wasn't cheap (around $1300), but it was worth it. I good medium price treadmill.

My recommendation is not to try cut costs on this. By a new tradmill by a decent manufacturer from someone who will support it if it has a problem. It will cost a lot more than what you would spend on a department store or a garage sale, but you will get a serious piece of equipment that you can trust.

A few general tips...

Don't even consider a non-motorized treadmill. Using them is very awkward. You want a motorized one and you want the best quality you can possibly afford.

Models vary in length and width of the belt. Wider is better. Longer is also better and safer.

Some models (the better ones) have more padded decks. They are easier on the joints. Though even an unpadded deck is no worse for you than walking out on the street.

We got ours about 6 years ago at Sears and I use it regularly thanks to the TV/VCR/DVD player set up in front of it. If not for that, I'd probably never get on it.
