Traveling with syringes?

my doctor just changed one of my meds over to an injectable form. I fly to DLR at the end of May and have never traveled with this medication form before. Does anyone have any experience with this? It is not insulin, it's Chemo medication being used for inflammatory arthritis. The syringes are not preloaded, so I will have an unused syringe and a liquid medication vial. Will this be a problem going through security? Any advice would be appreciated.

I've flown with syringes ( mine are preloaded) for years. Its not a problem and they don't have to be put in your regular liquids bag (medical liquids are exempt). Mine have to be kept cool, so they travel in a small collapsible cooler bag with a freeze pack. I always tell the TSA agents what's in the cooler, but they don't care.

When you get to your hotel, ask for a sharps disposal box for your used syringes.

Call your airline to verify what you need to be able to prove you medically need those syringes if you want or need them in your carry-on just to avoid holdups. They should be fine in your checked luggage, but still get a copy of your prescription info for the treatment and/or documentation about the drug and your medical needs if anyone should ask.

We recently passed through TSA airport security with a kid. We were directed to the line for families with small children and those declaring medical liquids.

TSA has recommendations to label everything and of course declare it to TSA before your bags are checked. It's not supposed to be a big deal if each container is under 100 ml and all your liquids fit in a quart-sized plastic bag. It also sounds kind of stupid, but they say any kind of freeze packs you might need aren't treated as liquids if they're absolutely solid, but may be tested if they're "slushy". Sounds rather stupid to me.

By the way, you should never pack essential items like medication in your checked luggage. Always bring it in a carry on.

If your medication has to be refrigerated, DL will refrigerate it for you at First Aid.

I have had injected medication is both preloaded syringes and carried the meds separate from empty syringes, and have never had a problem at the airport. The TSA guys see that stuff every day and it's not a big deal.

We flew for many years with syringes and small viles of medications for our daughter. Hers also has to be kept cold so we'd also have those refreezable ice packs. We never had any issues or were even questioned but I would suggest carrying a current copy of the script if possible.

I just flew in Feb with 10 days of new syringes, 10 needles to change for the injection, 10 medication vials, and a 1/4 filled sharps container (I have a small travel red sharps container so I don't need to ask anyone for anything). At any rate, my trip was 5 days, so I had double the needed medications in my carry-on.

No one at TSA batted an eye. I did take it out of my bag, because I'm always freaked out by the idea of them thinking I'm "hiding" something, but they didn't even give it a second glance. So, I throw my medication bag (where I keep my vials, needles, and syringes) in with my regular fluid bags.

I'll admit, I was freaked out at the idea of flying with syringes and liquid medications that went with it. But, after multiple flights now, I've never had a problem with it, and I'm not as worried about it.

For what it's worth, my pharmacy gives me a small clear ziplock bag with a typical pharmacy label on it, so when my vials and syringes are in that, it looks "official."
