Traveling Turkeys Part 2 11/22/08

Happy November!

With Halloween being on a Friday, the weather being perfect, and us staying home for a change, I thought we'd have tons of kids. I was really surprised by the small turn out. Now I have way too much candy left and I don't know what to do with it.

Here's the pumpkin I carved yesterday. ;)

i believe it is about 46 children as of last count - again, it is personal preference whether you deliver once or multiple times....we tend to order lots of primarily child oriented stuff from oriental trading company and then make several trips, but that is just us...there are numerous variations on the theme to suit each family's wishes...bottom line is that w/this many people involved, the FE's will be stuffed repeatedly.

I just read on the main bb that the Magic will be using a photopass system for onboard photos within two weeks. I am so excited about that since I HATE fighting through Shutters to view pictures. What a nightmare that place can be. Hopefully it will be a smooth tranistion!

PDM, and Michelle, if anything changes and you need me to get your water, etc, just let me know. My plan is to fly in on the 20th, around midnight. We'll be on property for two nights in order to do MVMCP. I will probably run out on Friday am and pick up what supplies I need. We'll be at the port between 10-11 so I would need to take it onboard with me. I'm pretty sure I'll have the tags for the extra's but I'm not 100% sure right now. I do have to say, though, that last trip, the porters were great about giving out extra luggage tags. People behind us came with a case of beer and two cases of water and the porters tagged them and had them delivered to their room. Not sure if that is always the case, or if things have changed, but that was our experience in 06.

Our elves are just 10" stuffed dolls. You can see them at elf-magic.com. The idea is that you leave them crackers and water overnight and that magically brings them to life-I know, weird, but I didn't make it up. Elves are known for being naughty and they often make messes or get into trouble. Sometimes they leave little gifts too, like a gingerbread house making kit, straws, stickers, and on Christmas Eve, new pj's. One morning, the kids came out to a winter wonderland in our livingroom. The Elf had cut out dozens of snowflakes and hung them criss cross all over the livingroom on clean fishing line. Well, it was a pretty sight but he neglected to clean up his mess and there were paper and scissors everywhere. I need ideas for when they appear but I can't really leave them alone for any period of time. I'd be afraid they'd disappear. I might set them up on a lounge chair in a quiet area, and ask the "neighbors" to keep an eye on them. Then I could set it up that the kids would walk by and see them. I don't know... I'll figure out something. ;0)

My dog finally came home last night. She still doesn't look that great to me. There is just something that is "off". She got into the regular dog food (she's on a restricted diet for a few days) and ended up vomiting last night. But today is better. She is definitely happy to be home.

The weather was great to ToT last night. We live in a little, dead end subdivision. There are only 9 kids that are 4th grade and under now, so we don't get many kids. It's the perfect place to ToT, too. We ended up with around 12-14 kids, including a couple nephews that came over. Since I get so few kids, I hand out a bunch of stuff-popcorn balls, eyeball gumballs, fake teeth, necklaces, full size candy bars, etc. I load their bags right up. Most of the neighbors do the same thing so the kids make out well!

Sandy, your pumpkin looked great! Cindy, hope you're having fun at the t-shirt place. Has anyone order the enviromentally friendly sunscreen? Any suggestions on where to buy and what brand?

I'm feeling a bit anxious myself. I really need to pick up last minute stuff (but I don't know what), do some extra magnets, and the thing I dread the most, sort through my summer clothes. I only have one more week end after this to get organized, since we'll be out of town the 14-16.

Have a great week end everyone. And happy packing.

Shell,

THats great your dog came home, it must be such a relief!!

Holloween here caried on until about 1am, started up again around 7 to get ready for a soccer game. Yes, I am TIRED. I hoe this is not overkill, but here is a few pictures of some people yo uall have never met, but we did have a blast. I think the finally tally at the party was about 55.

Maybe this will work?

No, it didn't. I guess I don't have it down yet! The link works though.

DS is trying to get the photo to orint on the thread.

Cindy - If the t-shirts are done, we'll wear them to MVMCP (I'll insist DH and DS wear them!) if it's warm enough. You'll be able to pick us out on the bridge if you end up there for the fireworks.
Sandy - your pumpkin is great!
Shell - So glad to hear your dog is on the mend! If you need "elf help" or an "elf babysitter" let me know.
KEN- Great photos. I know the guy in the middle, last photo. That's Jerry Garcia, right? And I thought he was gone!

Our FE gifts are done and packaged up!:cool1: :thumbsup2 One less thing to cross off my list.

Judy, what a nice picture of the Donalds. Your DGS is adorable.

Off to do laundry.

It worked!!!
I had DS help. He also admitted that he has been coming on the thread and reading!

I picked up our cruise docs! I had no idea but our TA arranged for us to get a 75.00 on board credit. I think we were only to get 25.00 because we're in cat.11. It was very nice of her, every little bit helps!
Went to Wal Mart and bought more t-shirt transfer paper. Came home and started to print. I accidentally, and don't know how it happened, printed up my DS essay on Plato! I think I'm going to make it into a t-shirt. Why waste it?

Great picture. I love the idea of the Plato shirt. Maybe DS would get extra credit for turning it in that way? :rotfl2:

Great news about the extra credit too.

KEN - great pictures! The party looked like it was a lot of fun.

SANDY - loved the pumpkin.

SHELL - I'm sure many of us Dis friends will be happy to help with the elf project. I may look into buying one of my own.

All of the pictures are great. Ken, your party looks like a lot of fun. Hope you were able to catch a nap this afternoon.

Judy, your dh his a good sport. What a great picture. Your grandson is absolutely adorable. But where is the picture of you and ds???? Get on it, girl!!! Oh, your dh does look like Billy Bob. You must look like Angelina.

Thanks for the offers for Elf help. I may be taking you up all up on it. Shay, if you get one and need some others to help create mischief, just let me know.

Judy, that is a good idea to wear our shirts to MVMCP. I was going to make Christmas ones for us, but I am just not feeling it. Plus it's one more thing to pack. I'll let you know what we decide. Enjoy your extra shipboard credit. What a nice surprise.

What a comeback by our Miami Hurricanes today to win at UVA...of course I could not lose either way since I went to both schools, but I tend to favor Miami in football and UVA in hoops since they play in the same division of the ACC these days.

Chuck:cool1:

Well we may have all been out w/umbrellas, but we still had over 100 kids come by.

We barely had 20 guess they like the rain better than nice weather...we were very surprised. And not one doorbell after 9pm so were were even more surprised.

It must have got his big toe pretty good. He cried unconsolably for 2 hours until he cried himself to sleep.

This morning he feels better, but I think he is going to lose the toenail. :sad1:

You should have told him Frankie Jonas does not cry.....that may have helped

Ok,
-Do you give one gift per stateroom for the adults or one to each adult (I am leaning towards one per adult, which leads to the next question...)

-Do we know how many ADULTS are participating in the FE exchange? I printed out the FE list and know the number of staterooms and children, just not the adults.

-Can someone tell me their number of children so I can make sure I am accurate? I will bring extra just in case- just wanted to make sure. Thanks!

I cannot remember the adult number but Lisa/Chuck I have the same thing about 46. I do more than one day and I give out stuff to the kids each time, but for the adults typically just one time and sometimes only one if there are two adults in the cabin. I do things like gum, mints, magnets, pens for the adults.

We use the delivery as something to do during the downtime.

I think I can find out if the photopass will be up and running bytime we are there. Our friend just bored a week ago.....he is the manager of shutters. Maybe we can get some "inside info.":rotfl: I know they were at one time looking at a system that would let you view it from your stateroom but that never panned out or at least not at the time.

As for the liquids I do believe about 6- 8 months ago it changed due to homeland security changes in laws. You can no longer check a liquid, but you can walk it on. I know you can no longer send it to be later put on the ship. I have a friend who is the friendly guy on the other end of the phone when you call with questions about DCL. I can ask him if you want to know for sure in advance.

Sounds like everyone had a good Halloween. We had a low head count even though the weather was perfect- in the low 70's and not a cloud in the sky. We usually wrap things up around 9 but we were finished at 8:30 and had all the decorations put away by 9. Now, we have the daunting task of getting rid of too much candy. DDs (10 and 12) don't seem to see that their is a problem. :lmao:
Can't believe that in 3 short weeks we will be sailing!

Lisa there will be no fed ex package on your doorstep tonight. My sitter called another person and she is going to watch Jessica. It is one of my former students and she is great with kids and loves Hannah Montanna like Jessica. So no big box with holes.

We spent the day shopping for gifts for Jessica's friends and picking up some more fish extender stuff for some of us. Plus I am thinking of making a new bottom half of my Pirate Costume so we went to see what they had at Jo-Ann's

Well it is getting to be about time for me to get dressed for our Halloween Party....we have a group wearing redneck togas....."no offense to anyone....I know some do not like the term" but part of our group going to this party is from an area labeled as a redneck town so we decided to run with it.

Btw, Lexandme i loved that picture of your two ducks.

I love all of the pictures! Sandy--your pumpkin is great! Judy--your two ducks are adorable, and I have to agree that your DH does look like Billy Bob Thornton! That was the first thing I thought of when I saw your picture!

I went shopping today and came home with two new suitcases.:confused3 I'm trying to limit each of us to one large suitcase, but now I'm wondering how in the world four large suitcases are going to fit in our rental car. We may be upgrading at the Budget counter upon arrival.:rolleyes1 I also got DH a shirt to wear for pirate night. I don't think we're going to bring our costumes since they require boots, etc. It's just too much stuff to lug with us, and I do want to wear our formal wear since we never get dressed up like that as a family.

I keep calling Imsomaha (Steph) to tell her to get busy on her FE's! So, if you see this: Do you have them done yet?:rotfl:

Hope everyone is having a great weekend. It's absolutely beautiful here and in the mid 70's. I think I'm going to try to work ahead on my homework a little so I won't have so much to do before we leave for the trip. We're staying home tonight. I might drag out the DCL planning DVD and the WDW planning DVD. The family just loves it when I do that and make them sit and watch.:lmao:

Alright already! Cut me some slack would ya! My house got cleaned today and I took time to watch that ugly game:rotfl:  I am working on them right now:dance3:

Ok, I had a very successful day! I ordered the FE gifts. I don't want to give anything away, but I am so excited about them :cool1: I can't wait to give them out! I ordered 100 of them. That should be enough for each of the adults and the kids (I hope!!!)

AND...we decided at the last minute to get passports. We went last Thursday to apply for them (10/23) and they came in the mail today. That was FAST.

Michelle-

Have a great time at your party!! We watch Hannah Montana here too (Mason and I) so Jessica would have been right at home!! Also, Chuck just bought Mason the HSM3 soundtrack today!! :thumbsup2 We still haven't seen the movie yet.

Lisa

Maybe somebody can shed some light on this. Any idea what the air and water temps will be in CC and then in GC and Cozumel? My guess is the air temp at CC will be great, but the water is getting chilly this time of year. Chuck, any input?
