Traveling through Security with breathing machine

I've looked on the tsa site but couldn't find what I was looking for. We are leaving next Sat. and I wanted to make sure it was ok to carry on a breathing treatment machine for our daughter just incase she would need it on vacation and the medicine that goes with it that are in small plastic vials.

Also was curious about bipap machines ok to carry through security?

We take DH's Bipap through all the time. You have to put the motor portion in a tray by itself and the may swab it for moisture but we have never had any problems. I would assume the svn machine would be the same.

last trip we had to take DS nebulizer (spelling )machine....they guys were nice(at least) in philly they were. I did have to take it apart completely...which did stink ( but not that bad) I had his whole thing in one bin....the machine and the medicine...it was a whole box full...there was no way all those treatments would have fit into a plastic bag...I kept them all in the box from the pharmacy. But as I said the guys were great...they aksed me to take it apart so I wouldnt have to re-sterilize it. Hope this helps!

OP, You are permitted to take both machines as carry-ons.

I put the various components (mask, tubing, etc.) in plastic bags so that they don't go in the dirty bins unprotected. Also, if the Airport Security Screener wants to swab anything, have them put on clean gloves and use a fresh swab for each component.

Thanks everyone for the quick response. I was hoping to get hands on experience post which I did and it helps out a lot.

As far as taking it apart, I've never really knew you could take the machine apart? Or are you just referring to taking all the tubing and mask apart?

But that is good to hear about the medicine though since it sounds like we can keep it in the box.

just the masking and tubing...could you imagine if they wanted me to "take it apart" I could but then the pieces would never go back together...maybe a few missing pieces at the end (no wait thats when DH and friends put things together) I had the whole thing (minus the medicine) in the bag (black zipper bad the machine comes in) and they wanted me to tkae the tubing and mask apart. No big... I would just do what OP said about the bag...I think I did that on the way home if I remember correctly. And instead of having to rent a locker,you can store it at the nurses facility at the park (DS had to get a treatment during the day each day too, and the nurses said I could leave it there so I didnt have to pay for a locker-that was 2009 dont know if they changed) Hope that helps!!!

We did this last Christmas. I was more worried about carrying on all the meds since it put us WAY over the baggies limit. There was no worry with that. However, they scanned and swabbed the machine multiple times. Not a big deal, but it did take us much longer than normal to get thru security. Just leave extra time for going thru security. I put the tubing and mask in a plastic baggie to keep it clean as well. I told the TSA employee as I loaded it onto the rollers what it was.
