So thanks to the timing of one of the Jewish holidays that we get off from school, I get to go to WDW for a long weekend in September (first time traveling to Disney when the crowds are lower!) I booked my flights, and internally freaked out a bit when I realized I'd be heading to FL on Friday, 9/11. Then I thought about it and realized that there have been 13 September 11ths since THE 9/11, so I really shouldn't have any more cause for concern than any other day.

That being said, for those of you who have flown on that date recently, should I be prepared for extra long security lines? Or do most things at the airport operate normally?

Everything will operate normally. Security is in place every day and lines can be long any day.
Don't worry about it

Traveling the same day and like you a little nervous inside.

Seriously! It's just a day like any other. It's silly to worry about this.
You probably (hopefully) didn't mean anything by this, but it kind of struck me the wrong way. It's really not a day like any other- it never will be again in America anyway. And I don't think she's being silly at all- it would be hard for almost anyone to make a reservation on 9/11 and not have some conflicting feelings about it...

We flew last year on 9/11. We landed in Orlando about 8:30. When we got off the tram, it was about the same time the first tower had been hit. They were having a service at the security checkpoint. Everyone stopped and were very respectful about it. That was the only thing I saw different that day.

What happened on September 11, 2001 is what is significant, not the day itself. I have traveled on 9-11 a number of times since 2001 and it is just like any other travel day.

I've traveled on it at least three times, no big deal any of the times. It might make you nervous, but besides an uneasy feeling in your stomach, it'll be like any other flight.

if the fare is good for me, no issues with booking a flight traveling on 9/11

my thoughts are book the date that i need, flying on the 11th is not a problem.

We flew last 9/11 from PDX to MCO via ATL for a trip to Universal. Nothing seemed different at all in the airports.

I don't know anything about the lines or how things operate on that day. I'm sure it is business as usual with maybe a pause to remember. I think it would be a little sad to fly on this day thinking about what happen to those poor people on the planes on 9/11. You are actually honoring their memory but refusing to let the terrorist win and live in fear. You are going on with life, but pausing to remember their lives.

my son and i were scheduled to fly out the 12th that september, but all flights were cancelled at that time and for up to the 16th or 17, don't remember which..

we were switched to the first flight out of ohare when planes were allowed to resume flying.

the plane i was on only had 9 people on it.
first i was concerned then realized it was probably the safest time ever to fly.

so strict at the airport with quite a bit of military presence.

I flew to London in December 2001 and there were soldiers at all the checkpoints at Newark Airport with rifles at the ready. In the years since, I've flown on 9/11 including once to WDW and had no qualms about it. Of course I think about that day, but I also feel that it's one of the safest days to fly because of that day.

This will be my 3rd trip to WDW flying in on 9-11, the first times was 9-11-2002 and never had any trouble.

I have flown on September 11 many times. As passengers, we will never again allow the terror and murder to take place. Act quickly and decisively with the help of fellow passengers and the skies will be safe.
