Travel with teenagers?

So I would like some input....

I have a timeshare with Club Intrawest, and we have been very lucky at being able to trade into DVC and get a room. about 5/6 times.

My kids are 5 & 7.

I am thinking about getting DVC as one of my goals is to stay at every Disney property, and I think the kids would love it.

My concern is this, DD is 7 so I am guessing by the age of 12/13 she won’t want to travel with us parents, maybe she still will want to, anyone have any feedback as to what their teenagers were like, (I know they are all different)

Just concerned about buying DVC and using it for 6 years and putting it on hold for 8 years.

Let me know your experiences or advice.

Like you said, all kids are different.

We have two girls aged 15 and 17. We have been going to disney annually since they were 2 and 4 years old. We only bought DVC this year and have yet to go as a member. We checked with the girls before buying to see that they would indeed be interested to keep going. Both assured us that they would; they love Disney!! They are already dreaming about going with their friends and talking about taking their children someday. DH and I also love it there.

In our case, though, we only go for 3 - 4 days per year and therefore have not over exposed them to the World. We bought enough points to keep doing it this way for a while.

I am a DVC owner with a SDD of 19 who is very upset that she is unable to come with this year as she is getting ready for University. I am bringing my GodDaughter who will turn 16 while there and she can't wait to go. I truly believe Disney is for teenagers for if you ask them if they want to go and do rides and shows all days what do they usually say. Now having said that they will want to start later in the day and stay later so I find that harder to deal with as I get up early and have to do the wait thing which drives me crazier.

Our son is 15, and we've been going since he was 4. If/when we decide to do something different, I'll just rent my points and pay cash for whatever trip we want to take. The last 3 years, DS has taken a friend with us, which makes Disney a lot of fun for him. DD is 9 (her first trip was at 1) and loves Disney, so I can't see her changing...but who knows! Since we live in OH, we tie a week at Disney together with a week at Daytona Beach, and the kids seem to love it.

Ok...we are self-confessed Disney Freaks, but my kids still love to go. We recently went on a spur of the moment trip at the end of April and my 24 DS got to go along too. He was psyched about getting to go again! It is one of my DD favorite places to go and she will be 14 in July! All kids are different, but I think mine will be going to WDW for many years to come! Our are 23,20 & 14 and still love it; as they became older sometimes going with friends, cousins etc makes it all the better for them.

My son is 14 now, he was around 3 1/2 when we purchased DVC. He loves the resorts and their amenities. The theme parks aren't as important to him at this point, after 10 years but he still loves to vacation with me. Since he's an only child we've always brought his friends with us and as they are older we give them a bit more freedom to wander the resort and the parks without us, trust me they never say no toa trip! I'm sure in the future he will plan a trip with his friends, or girlfriend without me, and when that time comes that will be ok with me!

Wow true about the brining friends never though about it, you guys and gals are great. And really who wouldn't like a little time off from some snow in winter....

We live far enough away that it is a nice trip away.

Our kids have been going to Disney since before they could walk. They are 14, 12, and 9 now and I haven't seen any sort of decrease in desire to go. Our next trip to WDW is October 2012 and just last week, my daughters were pouring through the DVC book trying to decide where they want to stay.

Our kids still love to go...age 17 to 27. We mix it up a bit for them by adding a day or two at (shhhhh ) universal and next year a cruise. We think every 3 years we will take them to Aulani instead, but I know they will miss WDW that year!
IMHO Even if someone tires of "Disney" or WDW, the resorts offer a wonderful vacation.

I am fortunate that mine still love to go and enjoy WDW as much as I do. This summer, my youngest DD 15 is bringing her friend. My other DD 18 decided she really wanted to come (missed last summer) so now she is and DH is staying home (at least, he is as of today--that could change!)

My DDs 12 and 10 are Disney nuts! They'd go every 3 months if I could swing it!

My son 16.... hates Disney and everything that goes with it. But he is a homebody and doesn't like to go anywhere if he can avoid it! So he usually stays home when we go down. My DH is much the same way, thought he enjoys a trip down every 3-5 years!

We are using points in September to add a couple days at Disneyland Paris to extend a weeklong 13th birthday trip to Paris with my DD. Something I definately wouldn't have considered without DVC.

You could always do a few days at Disney and a few days at Vero Beach as well as the kiddos get older!!

So If for the forseeable future you see yourselves going to WDW.... don't worry about the teenager years!

We have been going to Disney every year for 13 years now! My children are now 25, 24 and 14 and they still look forward to Disney EVERY year!!

We have been taking our kids since they were 2 & 4, they are now 12 & 14. When asked this year if they would rather go to the beach in Florida or Disney, they hands down with out a doubt wanted to go to Disney. Our trips have changed as they have grown up, we take our time, do water parks, pool breaks, and tours and classes.

My DS and DGD ate 25 and 24 respectively and both still like to go. Their first trip was when DGD was 5 months old and this year she visited us twice in Florida on school breaks(graduate school) and we made it to Disney both times at her request. Having children bring a friend when they get to the teen years works really well also. We thought they would want to go off on their own but instead they just hung around with us.

I'm in my 20s and always loved to travel with my parents!! DH and I are going with my parents in September and we're all staying in a one bedroom. I clearly love Disney- always have (even through my teenage years!) and always will.

Every kid is different. I am an only child so my parents were always my best friends. As I got older, DH (then DBoyfriend) would come with us or female friends would tag along. We didn't have DVC then but I'm sure it would've been great for my parents if we had.

Personally, I'd buy DVC even if you are worried about your teens-to-be. Just think: you'll have DVC well past your kids' teenage years!

Been going since oldest DD was about a year old, 3 DD's later 20, 18, and 16 and they all still want to go! The older DD's come for long weekends over president day since they no longer have Feb. break (now in college) but both have expressed their want to go with friends using our points!

As they got older they really liked the freedom to be able to use Disney transportation and be able to go where they wanted. They love SSR and OKW so they can take the boat to DTD at night. I think there is alot for older teens to do besides the parks.
