Travel with a white noise machine...

I'm heading to Italy. Traveling with a friend. Now, it seems that I can be a 'noisy' sleeper. It had been brought to my attention, by said friend, that I tend to snore a bit. Having a dh that snores, more than a bit, I realize how this impacts the sleep of others.
So, I've purchased a sound machine. My question is...is it better to pack it in my checked bag or to put it in carry-on? I'm sharing a room with my friend a bunch of times over the next six months, so I need to figure out the best way to transport the darn thing, without looking like a terrorist.
Any thoughts?

They make white noise apps for your phone. Have you ever looked into that?

If you're taking the machine, I'd probably put it in my checked bag. I'm sure they've seen it all and it will be fine.

I use an app on my phone also. "Rain Rain" is the name, it has a lot of different sounds on it, not just rain.

Why has no one suggested a sleep study? It's not a white noise machine but perhaps a CPAP would help assure more years of happy traveling adventures? That would be medical equipment.

I'm guessing that would be a whole lot more expensive and a white noise machine.

I have a white noise machine that is very small. It is a Sony and I always place it in my check bag wrapped under my jeans and have not had any issues.

OP just carry it on. If they don't know what it is they'll check it out.

It's not a major issue! I certainly don't need a sleep study!!! My dh, who snores horribly, did have a sleep study done. No sleep apnea, so insurance wouldn't pay to correct the deviated septum. I snore fairly lightly, from what I'm told. I just want to avoid bothering my travel companions, if at all possible.

And thanks for the app suggestion!! I now have Rain Rain downloaded!!! Who knew!!

Then I'm glad you found out there was an issue. I know several people that are using CPAP machines, and are thrilled with the results!!! My quality of sleep is good, it's just that I tend to snore a bit as I fall asleep. And I hate thinking that my snorting is keeping someone awake. It doesn't seem to, but I'm bringing my machine in any case!!

It is a machine that provides various types of 'noise' that blocks out less desirable noises....snoring, traffic, etc. The sounds can be white noise (such as a fan) or rain, babbling brook, ocean waves, thunder storms. That kind of thing.
And yes, I have my converter already to go!!!

I would just use an app on your phone. We did that for DD when she had trouble sleeping in hotels. Also bring earplugs for your roommate. I use them all the time.

I may just do that! I use earplugs when I'm with my dh. I'm not sure the roommate is going to be happy with earplugs!!! But, I'll have some with me, just in case!
