Was wondering how much time to allow to get to California Grill from the Poly using Disney transportation. Thanks for any input!

On a good day, the monorail trip takes about five minutes. Factor in waiting for it, maybe another five minutes on a good day. I'd say 15 minutes on average to be safe.

15m would be good estimate to best time I'd say. You stop in GF and MK on the way

I agree that 15 minutes is a reasonable estimate for platform-to-platform.

As noted, en route from the Polynesian to the Contemporary, the Monorail makes stops at the Grand Floridian and the Magic Kingdom.

The biggest variable is the wait time.

If you absolutely, positively have to be at the Contemporary at a certain time, allow more time. You never know when there will be long wait for a Monorail to arrive or delays for any reason (especially at the Magic Kingdom station).

If you have time to kill, you can take the motor launch from Poly to MK, then motor launch, Monorail, or walk to CR.

Nope. No boat between MK and the Contemporary.

Last March we took a boat from CR to MK. In the evening. It originated at FW, then to CR, then WL and then to MK. Maybe an anomoly?

Not sure if that is the same thing, but I know there was a boat going in both directions (MK - CR - WL - FW, too).

If you have an ADR, you'll be told to be at the podium to check in 5-10 mins prior to your ADR time. I would actually leave you room, at the Polynesian, 30 mins before your ADR. That will give you time to wait for the monorail, ride to the CR, and then checkin.

If you have plenty of time, take the boat to the MK. Once it gets to the Polynesian, it goes right to the MK. Then, if it were me, I would just walk to the CR.....under 10 mins. I would leave 45 mins to get there using this approach.

I'm not sure when you'll be traveling, so be aware that there are certain dates in February and March when the Resort monorail will pick up at Poly but will NOT stop at CR! So you'll need to get off at MK - at which point I would walk to the CR, although you could transfer to the Express monorail, which on those same dates will stop at the CR before continuing to TTC.

The boat route is CR-WL-FW without MK. That is the resorts launch loop for those 3 resorts. I don't think it typically goes to MK (as there are separate boats that do that from WL and FW) but as you said maybe an anomaly.

Another option would be to walk from Poly to TTC and then get on the Express monorail and get off at Contemporary. This would probably be faster than going to MK and transferring. The monorails go in opposite directions so the Express should go TTC-CR-MK.

I wasn't aware of a boat between MK and CR. Is that new?

Nope. No boat between MK and the Contemporary.
We took it a while ago, but maybe they've discontinued it. However, from https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/guest-services/water-transportation/

Magic Kingdom Park
Accessible by water launch (also known as water taxi) from:

Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa
The Villas at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa
Disney’s Contemporary Resort
Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort
Disney's Polynesian Village Resort
Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground
Disney’s Wilderness Lodge
The Villas at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge

Granted, the website may be wrong.

When are you going to WDW ? Keep in mind that during Feb and March 2015, the monorail schedules have been changed and there may not be direct monorail service between the Poly and Contemporary Resorts. You may have to switch between the resort and express monorails. Contact Disney for more information.
