I'm just wondering who uses travel insurance and where you purchase it? I've purchased an inexpensive plan through my airline, but I'm not sure what kind of coverage there would be for something like the ash cloud crisis in Europe. I'm just interested in any information and anyone who may have been in a situation where they had to use the insurance.

I don't usually take insurance for WDW trips but for other trips I do, check insuremytrip.com you can get quotes from many different companies.

I use Travelex and usually the Lite policy, but as mentioned above I wouldn't use it for U.S. land based vacations. I do get it for cruises or international vacations though. Also, as mentioned, www.insuremytrip.com is a great resource to compare policies and prices.

I don't always get it either, but if I travel during hurricane season, or in winter. Last year our flight home was delayed because of de-icing (which was fine because we got to watch the play-offs in the airport lol) and out car was covered in snow when we got home. Thats when I decided a good blizzard could be a big problem, as could a hurricane. But my greater concern is definately international travel, especially after the volcanic ash cloud! Thanks for the links, I will definately bookmark them.

I never took insurance on our vacation trips before. I've learned my lesson the hard way. My DH and I had a Mexican vacation planned. It cost up HUGE $$$$ 2 days before the trip my grandmother died... on her 84th birthday. I didn't want to go on the trip but my family forced me to go saying my grandmother would never have wanted me to have lost all that money for anything. I begrudgingly went but I didn't enjoy myself. I've never gone on a trip without insurance since then.
