I have never purchased travel insurance before, but we are considering it since we will be traveling from Northeast and run the chance of flight delays from snow/ice in December.

Is there a travel insurance link on Disney's website? I can't seem to find it. A few people also recommended Travel Guard and Access America. Any experience getting your money from these companies.

Am I correct to assume you only enter the cost of your trip that actually comes out of pocket? We were able to get the free dining. Obviously, that is worth a few hundred dollars if we had to cancel and did not get the free dining again.

We are flying SW and I know we could use the credits for up to a year, but what if I just wanted a complete refund? We have no other vacations planned soon using SW. Thanks for any help/suggestions! :thumbsup2

i have never purchased it before and did this year. when we booked our trip the cast member automatically put it on. so i went with it. he told me what it covered and what it did not. that was in april of this year. fast forward just 2 weeks and my mom was diagnosed with cancer. so we decided that we would cancel the trip because i thought i would be taking her for chemo appointments. well that did not happen. she passed away july 11th. but before she passed, we canceled the trip. they sent me paper work to fill out and have the dr fill out and the whole entire thing -less the cost of the insurance - was refunded. even the non-refundable southwest airfare that i purchased on line. the whole thing.
so to me it was well worth it. we should have been coming home yesterday from our trip, but i would not have changed that for anything!

so from my point of view, it was worth every penny we paid for it!

thank you! it's been terribly hard. i miss her so very very much. more and more every day.

I can't begin to imagine. Hopefully when you've had time to regroup you'll get to reschedule your trip. I'm sure you'll need a distraction and some happy memories to help you along your journey.

OP, I have the travel insurance too, but have never needed to use it. I'm the type who would rather have it, just to be covered, then have something happen at the last minute. I also believe, if you book your flights yourself, that is separate travel insurance through the airlines, not Disney. My insurance through Continental is Access America. As soon as I find my insurance from Disney, I'll let you know.

Party of 3, I am sorry to hear about the loss of your Mom. Remember the good times. Also thanks for the info on the insurance.
