Because of the excessive rain and massive flooding in west Georgia, I-20 EAST and WEST bound are both closed west of Atlanta from Fairburn Road (exit 37, HWY 92) to Fulton Industrial Blvd (exit 49, just past Six Flags park). This stretch is closed indefinately as the Sweetwater Creek is flowing across seven lanes of the interstate. Once the water recedes, the DOT must then inspect the road for damage and decide when it will reopen.
Detours can take up to 4 hours due to heavy traffic and surace road closures.
If you are planning to travel this route, I would find another way, as it's a huge mess.
