We're staying at the Beach Club Resort in WDW and I was wondering how far of a drive is it to Universal from there? What is the best mode of transportation? TIA

Welcome aboard.
The best mode of transportation is the rental car even if it means paying for gas and parking. The convience factor makes up for it. Here are the directions to Disney.

If you don't want to rent the car, there are limo services that will take you. FL Tours advertises on this board, Happy Limo is another, and Mears is the Disney standard with phones in the lobby to call.

A taxi to Universal is around $30-$35 for up to 5 people.

For public transportation: Lynx bus goes, you can take Lynx 50 to the downtown bus station, then get on Lynx 40. Bus fair is $1.25 per person, and that includes a free transfer. Kids are only $.50, but there is no transfer for them, so it has to be paid each time they board. The trip will take around 2 hours, depending on trafic conditions, but it is cheap. Just keep in mind you must have EXACT CHANGE because the drivers do not make change. For other information, you can call them at 407-841-LYNX.

Mears is $14 roundtrip per person from Disneyworld hotels to Universal guest drop off. Call Mears for reservation to be picked up at your hotel and then, after park closing, go to guest drop off to be picked up.

Universal can directly book transportation. Call 800-407-4275 option 2. It's called the moviestar shuttle. They require a 12 day advance notice though.

Wow, never heard of moviestar until now.

Universal could really do something if they offered a shuttle service to/from Disney. They could undercut the other limo services, but I'm sure Disney wouldn't be happy about USF driving on to their property to pick up guests and take them away for a day.
But there's nothing stopping USF from driving to the TTC and dropping people off, even if it means paying the parking fee each time they pass thru the gates. I've written to Lynx many times asking them to make a direct route from Disney to IOA, but it seems they won't do it.

Thank you all for the info - if I decide to drive myself, how far is it? My sister and niece (who'll be turning 3 while we are there) will be with my family - what are the car seat laws in FL? Will a taxi or car service be able to provide a car seat?
Thanks again!

14 miles. Will take you about 20 minutes if there is no traffic.

when i have used packages at universal in the past, they have offered transportation with quik silver
is quik silver still in contract with universal?

I believe the FL carseat laws are 8 years/80 pounds.

For those of you that have travelled from WDW to US in the summer, did you find that it was difficult? Did it take a long time?

i just found my card from the oct trip.

i used dennis at Lorden transportation.
the charge for a limo, yes limo for just me, was $35 from a disney hotel to hrh............

excellent service and i plan to use him again.
