OK, I messed up. I'd read a few threads here and thought I could just get a cab to the DLH for the flat rate without booking in advance.

Then I read a thread that made me think that was not possible. So I just called Disneyland Express, and their last shuttle is at 10 pm. We arrive at 10:30.

Any suggestions? A last minute town car service? Has anyone gone out to the curb and gotten a flat rate taxi without booking in advance?

We are leaving today!

I think it's just that you talk to the taxi driver in advance, before you get in the car. I dont' think you have to book the cab in advance. (but you could always google "taxi anaheim" and get in touch with them if you wanted to).

There's also SuperShuttle...use the hotel name instead of the zipcode.

We asked for a flat rate from the driver before getting in the cab the first time we flew into SNA.

We have found that when it's just the two of us, it's cheaper to do SuperShuttle. We book that in advance online.

I can only write of an experience I had flying into SNA from SLC. It was snowing in SLC and we got a late start getting into the air. SNA has a curfew I think it's 11:00 p.m. meaning no flights can fly in after that time due to noise restrictions for the neighborhoods. The pilot doubted that we would get there in time and told us that we were going to land at LAX and be bussed back to SNA.
LONG story short. We made it to SNA just in time before the airport closed. I was worried that we wouldn't be able to find a shuttle that late at night. No need to worry. When you leave baggage claim and go out side there is a area with a sign for shuttle service. There were plenty of shuttle available at the airports closing. I wouldn't worry about making a reservation, you will be fine.

Quick follow-up... What is the best way of getting from a my hotel to LAX? I'm flying into SNA and plan on taking the Disneyland Resort Express, but my return flight is out of LAX. So, I don't think I can setup a roundtrip ticket. Thoughts?

I did this very trip last year.

What I was advised to do by the DRE staff when I emailed them was to book two singles trips.

It works out more expensive than a straight forward return, but it does the trick :thumbsup2

Tell the driver of the super shuttle (or what ever shuttle service you use) that you will need a ride on ___ date and ___ time to LAX. They will ever set it up or give you a # to call.

Once my sister and I made different reservations. I was flying out of SNA she was flying out of LGB. The driver came to pick both of us up at the same time. He dropped me off at SNA and then drove her up to LGB. We were surprised because we thought we would be in different vans.

I had read many times that you can get a flat rate from the airport to the hotel without any prior arrangements. We tried 3 different cabs last Oct. and finally gave up--none would give us a flat rate unless we'd called ahead. I don't know why others get it and we didn't, but it soured me on the whole taxi thing. It didn't cost a whole lot more, I guess (luckily we didn't have traffic problems or other delays) but we paid $48 instead of whatever the flat rate is (I've read $40-45 so I'm not sure) and I was mad about it! I'd read that there is some sort of contract whereby the taxis are supposed to give a flat rate from the airport. I know it doesn't apply the other direction and was expecting to be metered on the trip back, just not both ways.

Shuttles are easy and don't require reservations, but I always make them anyway because then I can use my coupon codes and get a better rate ($7 pp instead of $10).

That would work fine for shuttles, but I don't think that would work too well with the Disneyland Express, which is what I was answering about :)
