Transportation from AKL to MK

We are visiting in May and will have our own car. Is it more efficient to drive to MK or take the bus from AKL? I've heard to try and avoid the trip across the lagoon if possible. Thanks.

I would definately take the bus. It's a hassle (IMO) to drive to TTC, then take a tram or the monorail to MK.
