Help!
I am a MAJOR newbie. We are staying at WL 12/12/10-12/19/10 and will be coming in from North Carolina via Amtrack. (My DD4 is a train NUT and we wanted to make the trip there special). I am a planning nut and have no info on how to get from Amtrack to Disney. Do we just show up and take a cab (cringe)? Are there transportation services there? If so, how much and how early can you reserve? Experiences, reviews, advice, websites- all are welcome!
Thanks all your Dis'ers- you are great!:santa:

We take the autotrain from VA, and my kids often love this part of the trip more than WDW itself. Go figure. :)

IF you had asked about that, I could have helped you more, but there is information about train travel on the mousesavers site, check there? I don't know how old this information is, so I would verify everything.

Trains are cool, your DD will love it!

I remember taking the train from Boston to Orlando (changed trains in NY) with my family when I was a kid in the 80's. And there was very little to represent Disney at the train station. I'm sure things have changed in the 20+ years since then. But we had to take a cab to the hotel.

If you're taking "mainline" Amtrak, hopefully, you are getting-off at Kissimmee instead of Orlando (as Kissimmee is much closer to WDW than downtown Orlando).

Either way, the (only) way to get to WDW is normally by taxi, which is relatively inexpensive from Kissimmee to WDW.

The Kissimmee station is definitely the best stop for WDW however you may want to call taxi companies before you arrive to arrange transportation. We did not do that recently when coming in to Orlando from tampa and had to wait quite a bit for a taxi to arrive.( We didn't call until we got there & the only taxis waiting at the station were ones that had previous arrangements)
Wish I still had the cab companies name- he gave us a card but I do not have it. You can probably google the information, though. The fare was between $35 & 40 to the AKL. WL may be slightly higher.

Hey there neighbor! We live right across the border in SC in a little town called Latta! We are taking the train right after you guys! We pull out from Florence, SC(about 28 miles away) at 3:30AM on the 15! Our TA has arranged for transport roundtrip for us. The cost is approx. $105.00 roundtrip. I have started a PTR with some helpful hints I've found from veteran train travelers here on DISBoards and some info. on the internet. Please subscribe! We can help each other out!:thumbsup2

If you're going to take a taxi, I would recommend Mears. From Kissimmee, It should cost about $40. From Orlando it will cost about $50.

Thanks everyone for the wonderful advice. Katybugsmom- I have subscribed, neighbor!
Looks like my choices are Mears or pre-arranging a taxi- thanks everyone!
