Transport between Disney & Universal

Hi all,

My wife and I will be staying at the All-Stars resort in October. We are planning this holiday from Australia so please excuse the question if it is at all obvious. We bought 2 day passes to Universal as well as Disney tickets. The information from the booking says that the Universal passes includes transportation which will pick us up from the hotel.

Since I've been reading these boards for some time I thought that was interesting. I asked the travel agent about it and she was told that there is a daily bus that runs from Disney to Universal (she has never been so is going on second hand information.) Is she correct?

I'm not too stressed about it because I figured I could organize transportation when we get there and if worst comes to worst we could arrange a taxi, but thought it was worth an ask.

Thanks.

Are you with a group? Maybe your agent means a private bus. I can't imagine that Disney would trasport people over to Universal and I can't imagine that Universal buses would be allowed to pick up people from Disney. I can't say for sure, but it just doesn't sound right. Unless it's a regular city bus. I know there are plenty of hotels/resorts off Disney property that offer shuttles to both Disney and Universal, but you can check with the hotel when you arrive. You are right about the taxi though, that shouldn't be a problem. :confused3

I have never heard of any transporation that is offered strictly between Disney and Universal. Your TA may be thinking of the city busses (Lynx)? I have used the Mears transporation to go between Disney and Universal before it was very easy and only cost like $8-10 I belive.

No, we are not in a group, it is just the two of is. I thought it was strange also, but perhaps the package that we purchased is linked in with Mears or something like that. It all sounds a little strange, especially since the booking says transport included from hotel but we haven't booked the tickets for a certain date, just purchased two 2-day Universal passes. If it was linked to Mears I would have thought we would have had to book a date for the transport. But the idea of a routine daily bus between Disney & Universal that runs by default seems odd.

Anyway, it should all work out. We will probably do a few days at Disney first before doing Universal which should give us ample time to sort it out.

I'm wondering the same thing, perhaps the tickets are a package including the cost of transport with something like Mears. I should press the travel agent to find out more about it.

Just for interest, do you have any idea how much a taxi would cost between Disney & Universal or have you never done it?

IF your tickets do include transportation to Universal, the information should be on your vouchers or tickets. This transportation is probably provided by Mears if it is provided, so you would still need to make reservations. The steps below will help you. If they are prepaid you just won't have to pay them when they arrive.

Instructions for Mears to Universal from Disney.

Step 1 - The night before you wish to go to Universal, get on ANY Disney house phone (including your resort room phone) and Dial "0". When the operator comes on, ask to be transferred to Mears.

Step 2 - When Mears comes on the line, tell them you want to go to Universal the next day, how many people in your party, what resort you are staying at, and approximately what time in the morning you want to leave.
Mears will give you a pick up time on the phone, and possibly a confirmation #.

Step 3 - The next morning go to the front of your resort about 15 minutes before the pick up time Mears gives you and wait for the bus/van.

Step 4 - When the bus/van arrives, you will pay the driver $14 CASH per person for your round trip ride to Universal. You will receive your return ticket with a phone number on it.

Step 5 - When you arrive at Universal, you may schedule your pick up time then, or call the phone # on your return ticket two hours before you wish to return to schedule your return time.

Step 6 - Once you schedule your return time, then show up at the place you were dropped off at 15 minutes before your return time, and take the bus/van back to your Disney resort.

I hope this helps.

Carol

Are you sure it's not Mears from the airport to your hotel?

Okay, I didn't read all the posts so if I'm repeating info here, sorry.
When you purchase tickets or packages for Universal, you can purchase a "Movie Star Shuttle-Disney area" for $14 or "Movie Star Shuttle-International Drive area" for $12. I'm guessing that's what your travel agent got for you. You will probably need to arrange the time, so check your paperwork that comes with your vacation package.

clkelley...thanks a bunch for that, I'll print that out and take it with me in October. It is simple enough, but making the little things easier is what makes a great holiday in mind.

LoveToDisney...thanks also for the info. I guess I'm jumping the gun a little here because the holiday is booked but hasn't been paid in full, so I haven't actually got the tickets in my hand yet or any thing in great detail. All I have is a confirmation that the tickets are booked and that it includes transport from the hotel. When all is paid in full and the actual tickets are handed over, I'm sure all the info will be there.

Yes, it should be the same process for SeaWorld. Not sure of the cost for SeaWorld.
