Have been pricing out our options. Either renting 2 vans (party of 14) for the entire length of vacation which includes 2 days on-site and 4 day Wonder. Then priced van transfers thru limo company. The difference is about $100 cheaper if we do our own rental (and we have a late flight going home so we'd be able to do DTD before return flight). Question is has anyone ever rented a vehicle even though they stayed on-site AND paid to keep it parked at the port while on the cruise or is this crazy? Thanks

YES AND IT IS AWESOME! You will not regret doing this because you will be on your own schedule and not that of the shuttle/bus etc.. We went in Nov and rented a car at Orlando airport and then drove to Port Canaveral then used DCl parking lot $30 for 3 night. Then drove to WDW right after we got off the ship. It was great we could stop if we needed something and being DVC members we stopped for light groceries to bring back to the room. Also having the car available made it easy when our room wasn't ready.

PLUS if you have an AMEX card you can cash points in for car rental vouchers and save big $$ on the rental. Our last trip we paid between $50- $75 (it is slipping my mind the actual total) for 10 days of car rental doing it this way.

3DisneyNuts, thanks for the quick reply. Glad to know that I'm not crazy :D So the parking is $10/day I assume. How crazy is it getting out of the lot after getting off of the ship?

Not bad at all. I am telling you Disney has EVERYTHING set up wonderfully. I think this is why they charge a little more. It is so worth it. We disembarked between 8:30-(am went to get something to eat for Ds on the way to WDW stopped for some light groceries and then got to the front desk to check in at SSR at 11am! It was so easy!

Thanks again 3DisneyNuts. Looking at your countdown, it seems we'll be there at the same time!

Did you price doing two "one way" rental periods? Rent one way 2 days from MCO and drop off at Port Canaveral. Then rent one way from Port Canaveral back to MCO. Unless you get a really good weekly rate, you probably save not paying extra days for the vans to sit in a parking lot plus $10/day parking rate.

Budget, National, Hertz and Avis all have locations in Cape Canaveral to drop off and pick up.

We are doing the rent, park, WDW thing next week. It was way cheaper than any other option.

We are! We are!

Now if I can just get my countdown timer working...I modified my old one, from two years ago...

We are on the 2/13/05 Wonder cruise. We are renting a car at MCO and spending the night before the cruise at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. We will be able to spend some time at Downtown Disney the afternoon of our arrival and then have dinner somewhere fun. We will drive to the port in the morning, park the rental car and pick it up again when we disembark. We will then drive ourselves back to MCO and return the car. I DO NOT want to hassle with shuttle buses, one way rentals, etc. We will have complete control and I look forward to it.

If it's crazy, you have lots of company.

Have fun :D

That's what I was thinking. We are renting two vans and the hassle of re-renting them is a turn-off (not to mention wrecking havoc on the credit card -having four different hold amounts on them surrounding the cruise) I'd rather pay $80 in parking than do the shuttle thing and re-rent.

Just FYI....
I called National and they told me they wouldn't put any additional hold on my CC. Now that is good news since I am "taking everything to the limit" on this trip :earseek:
