I have been taking home video since 1994 (including HOURS and HOURS of my Disneyland and WDW trips along with other vacations and family events) and transfered them to standard VHS tapes. Because I can not, at this time, afford a new Digital camcorder and computer system to edit onto DVD's, I would like to buy a peice of interim equipment... a DVR I am assuming... to transfer these tapes onto DVD's to play on my current DVD player. I will not use it to record TV programs so do not need it to playme the beggining of a program while it is recording the ending. I simply want very good quality dupes of my tapes and it would be nice if it were fairly simple to operate and not more than $200-$400. Do any of you have suggestions, input and experience that you could send my way.? Thanks.

I am in the process of transferring our 200+ family home videos onto dvds. I purchased a Magnavox dvd recorder from Sam's Club for less than $400. It is a +R recorder and I can fit 2 tapes onto a dvd in most cases. I am not doing any fancy menus or chapter recordings at this time but at least I can preserve the videos for watching and editing (when time permits) later on. I watch for sales on the dvds at Best Buy - they have the sales alot lately. Hope that my answer helps.

some dvd players do not do plus r's and some do not do minus r's....we had a heck of a time .......hope you are okey with it

We just got a Panasonic DVD Video Recorder (model # DMRE50) from Circut City and it was $427.49 + tax. It says DVD RAM/DVD-R on it. We have really enjoyed it and makes watching our Disney vacation from December so much easier than hooking up the camera and the cables and then not being able to fast forward with a remote blah blah blah LOL!!

I know HP DVD to VHS Moviemaker for around 300.00 dollars that does that. Check at Bestbuy.com they have them.

Thanks for the opinions and information. I appreciate it.
