Trampoline debate ( after the trampoline question)

Well lets no tlet it happen again people may think we actually get along or something hehehe. You are quite the smart alec for a 13 year old and I like that means no one will hopefully push you around when you get out of school.

Oh believe me, no one pushes me around....I'm quite proud of my smart alec attitude. Actually, a lot of people I meet feel the same as you about my attitude...my coach last year asked me(jokingly I think.... ;) ) to have his kids this year adopt my attitude... :D

Yeah, and lets not lead people to believe we get along....we wouldn't want that :o

My oldest daughter is only 7 but we are teaching her to not let anyone tell her how to act etc and to be her own person better to have her prepared before she gets to HS tan have her get that culture shock.

back on topic, even if you have someone watching, it's the trampoline that causes the accidents not lack of supervision. I know several kids who have broken there legs because of the way the landed just jumping up and down on a trampoline. Nothing caused that except for the trampoline. [/B]

You are absolutely correct. They are inherently dangerous. Most people have just been lucky that they haven't been injured.

That being said, many of us engage in activities that are risky. Just recognize that trampolining is one of them, and PLEASE have adequate health/homeowners insurance to cover the damages so the rest of us don't have to pay.

We live in Canada so our medical is all covered by the government under OHIP (Ontario Hospital Insurance Plan). I race motorcycles and have to get specific insurance for that I pay about 2000 dollars for 3 months of race insurance just in case anything happens to me while I am out on the track.

they just got back... it wasn't the kind with netting... I still think I would let them do it again though..

I guess we were bad... :earseek:

My family got a trampoline (my mom wanted one badly) when I was in (I think) 8th grade.

Big trampoline, no safety nets. On grass, but concrete nearby.

More than one person - elementary age kids, teenagers and adults - jumping at the same time (and "sending" one another - fun, fun, fun!) I think the most on it at one time was about a dozen.

Flips? Oh, yeah! Forwards and backwards. ::yes::

And I recall my "daredevil" brother using the tramp at times with his BMX bike.

Best of all? Water, water and more water! Sprinkler underneath + sprinklers up above = a wonderfully cool and slippery wet good time! :earseek:

Injuries/Accidents? None whatsoever.

Maybe we were just really lucky, but I wouldn't change a bit of it. :bounce:

*I will admit, though, that my then boyfriend (now DH) sprained his ankle (and I think a friend of his (ours) broke his foot) on someone else's trampoline as older teenagers.

All that to say this: I don't have a problem with trampolines. At the same time, I understand there are risks associated with them, so that's something each person/family needs to decide for themselves. JMHO.

I refuse to get one. I have a close friend who's a nurse, and she says that she sees TONS of kids come in from Trampoline accidents. Not really a big deal for us though since both my girls take gymnastics and get to use the trampoline there, and are very well supervised. PLUS, all the springs and metal pieces are completly covered with mats... you don't even see them. There is a little girl a few houses down who just got a trampoline, complete wtih safety net, but I won't let my girls jump on it. Maybe I'm overly protective, but I just don't like them.

We have had 3 over the years ( wear it out and just replace it everytime)

We did have a problem with the kids dragging it over by the pool and bouncing off into it. We took it down for a month and they never did it again .

We let some of the kids friends jump on it but not others .You can always tell who is going to break the rules ::yes::

well, like I said, I don't know anyone and have never seen an adult who has jumped on a trampoline...

I'm 35 and have been on my SIL's trampoline. It's great exercise and fun. Adults do like to have fun, you know!

OKAY! I'm just saying I never knew anyone who did it. Sorry to offend those older trampoline jumpers out there.....I'm just a stupid kid, right?

Ooops, I posted the previous before I got to this. I wasn't offended, only surprised that you thought trampolines attracted only kids. And I would never call you stupid, unless perhaps you actually said something stupid (and even then I'd be more likely to think it than say it).

BTW, us grown-ups also enjoy Super Soakers, cotton candy, dirt bikes, video games, G & PG movies, doing canonballs into the pool, dreaming up the perfect tattoo we'll someday get, and so much more. Pretty much everything except Hilary Duff, LOL! (I'm sorry, but that girl can NOT act.)

Flaps.. your use of the trampoline reminds me of when my friends had one 7 years ago.

But we jumped off the roof onto the trampoline to see who could bounce the highest. :Pinkbounc

We used to have a trampoline. I was always nervous about it. We had it in a backyard that was surrounded by a 6' chain link fence with a locked gate. One day we came home and found a child's sweater laying on the tramp. After a few inquiries I found out from a neighbor that practically every kid on the block was climbing the fence to use the tramp whenever we left the house. I was so upset as I know if one of those kids had gotten hurt we would have been liable even though they were trespassing. A new job in another state gave us the perfect opportunity to get rid of the darn thing.

Well technically I am an adult at 24 and I absolutly love trampolines! IMHO I would much rather have my child (don't have any yet but will some day) jumping on a trampoline outside, than inside watching tv and playing video games. In reality any sport is dangerous. Granted there is a risk involved but getting hit in the chest the wrong way with a baseball of football can cause even a healthy child's heart to stop, does that mean children should be allowed to play football or baseball?
I am not meaning to pick a fight about this but one of the sadest stories I have seen l is one day when I was working in retail. A child and his mother came into the store where I worked (this is back when Razor Scooter were really big!) The child took one look at the scooters and got really excited and said "Oh wow Mom look at those! I really want to get one of those for Christmas" now again don't flame me for this... but this child was about 8 or 9 years old and was already quite overwheight. His mom respond "There is no way you are getting one of those they are so dangerous!"
Maybe it is just me but again I would much rather have my child outside having fun, being active with a bit of risk of getting hurt, than inside sitting, and 100% safe. Kids can get hurt doing just about anything, I say as long as there is proper supervision, and set rules like 1-2 people at time "Jump Away!" :bounce:
I hope you all realize that this is just my opinion, and that I am not meaning to make anyone mad, just presenting my point of view. ::yes::

Funny, this comes up. We just bought a homeowners policy, and it doesn't cover having a trampoline. Just as well. my kids aren't really into it and I don't want the whole neigborhood in out backyard risking getting hurt. I won't have one. I wouldn't let my kids play on one!!
JMO!

We have lots of things the kids do like gymnasticks skating riding bikes playing in their tree fort etc. My issue is some of the neighbourhood kids listen to adults about as well as a brick. I know even though we tell them not to use it they will try to when we are not at home.

We jumped off of roofs (and out of 2nd story windows) as well...

...but without anything but the ground below us. :p

Others may disagree, but I'm glad my parents weren't constantly afraid we'd "break"...

(That's not to say they approved of every dumb thing we did, of course. Nor did they know about everything. Like the time I and my sibs went ice skating for several miles down a creek that really wasn't safe for skating. It was a blast, but I do regret that foolhardiness. :( I was the oldest, and instigated it, and I am SO thankful no one fell through.)
