I'm needing to get to Heathrow in July. I live Lancaster,Lancashire. I'm trying to arrange a train journey but all of the National Rail Enquiries bring up routes which include use of the Underground. Basically it goes Lancaster - Preston - Euston - Underground to Heathrow, or you can get Euston - Paddington (via Underground) and then Heathrow express from PAD to Heathrow.

Can anyone help by telling me if this journey is possible without using the UNderground. I've never used it before and the whole idea scares me!!!

Thanks,:thumbsup2

Well, there are four options, but for you, there are only two. The other two options both involve the tube. :rotfl:

1) You can just jump in a taxi at Euston station and get driven to Paddington station, but that is going to cost a considerable amount - London taxis will charge you, even if you are sat in a traffic queue waiting to go somewhere. So, hit rush hour or road works, and the cost can add up. Then you can catch the Heathrow Express.

2) You can get a bus. The 205 goes from outside Euston station and will drop you off at Paddington station, and will take approximately 30mins, excluding traffic/rush hour/road works!

And now the tube options:

3) Walk from Euston Station to Euston Square Station. Get on a westbound Hammersmith and City(pink) or Circle(yellow) line tube, and get taken straight to Paddington, then board the Heathrow Express. A single cash fare will be £4.

4) Stay at Euston Station and go to the underground entrance within in the station. Catch a southbouth Victoria (light blue) line tube to Green Park. Change at Green Park for a westbound Piccaddilly (navy blue) line tube, making sure it is heading to Heathrow, and stay on there until Heathrow! Again, a single cash fare journey will be £4 and will take about an hour from there.

I live in London and travel on the tube six days a week, so if you want any more advice about using the tube, then let me know.

If you can use regular trains and buses you shouldn't have a problem using the tube.

Be aware that the National Rail Enquiries have always overestimated how long my journeys involving connections will take. (They don't always give the most straightforward route either!)

That is very true! National Rail once told me it would take 20mins to change between Waterloo Main Line and Waterloo East tube station. In all eventually, it only took about 8mins. Admittedly, as a Londoner, I walk fast, but even so, it was just up an escalator and across a long bridge!
