Trail's End breakfast

I tried to warn the world on the downhillness of the snails end..... nobody listened to me.

Wow - has this gone downhill!! :(

The "buffet" consisted of one station. It had: scrambled eggs, little Jimmy Dean-type sausage patties, thin flavorless bacon, pre-frozen potato cubes, and biscuits/gravy-out-of-a-can. They also had a breakfast pizza, which was mostly crust -- pretty nasty.

The fruit station was just grapes and unripe watermelon cubes. They had pre-boxed type blueberry muffins, and pre-frozen mickey waffles.

They did have a couple types of dry cereal for the kids.

What happened to all the good food they used to offer?? I always loved the corn beef hash! And, they used to offer salads, better fruit, pastries, ham, etc. No more. :confused3 All of the food was either pre-packaged or heat-n-serve. They don't even need a "chef" there anymore.

We couldn't believe it when we walked in and looked around! There were very few people in the restaurant - but a line outside where they were taking names and giving pagers. I think they were only seating a few people at a time, since there was so little food. They were trying to control the line.

We will definitely NOT be going back - unless we hear that things are better.

Wow, maybe i will take this off my list. Gotta find a good b-fast buffet somewhere while we are there. Any suggestions on or off-site? :confused3

Thanks
Dan

We ate at TE twice this month for breakfast and the food quality seemed to be about the same as it was when visited last in January 2008. The hash and eggs with cheese were the things I noticed missing. While I don't like the fact that they took things away, overall I don't think it is that bad.

We're planning on going to Golden Corral on Saturday for breakfast...not the same as TE, but much cheaper.

Golden Corral isn't so bad considering it's a mass produced buffet. Maybe GC will take over the trails end.

I firmly believe that Disney does EVEYTHING for a reason, be it good or bad, but ALWAYS to Disneys advantage. Which usaully translate to $$ in one form or another. Many times Disney does things systematically, but I can't figure out why they would RUIN a on property bisiness for ANY reason, it just doesn't make since. Nor does it make since that Disney would let a business continue to ruin itself. :confused3

Totally off-topic, but they did systematically, and purposely change the way Pleasure Island was run which RUINED it, so they could close it!!!

I agree that Trail's End, which was never that great of a value to begin with, has declined, but can anyone name a restaurant anywhere on WDW property where you haven't felt ripped off lately? IMHO, all of the on-property restaurants have declined in quality, but have increased in price over the past couple of years.

I blame the Disney Dining Plan (DDP). Unfortunately, WDW has successfully convinced people that this is a great deal, and they have raised prices, and decreased quality for those who are paying on a meal-by-meal basis. I think that they intentionally have set prices at an aggressively high level to make more folks buy into the DDP, thinking that they are getting a bargain. Prices, variety, and quality were better before the DDP, but I'll bet that WDW's profit has increased (which is what it is all about to them).

I don't like it, and they are getting less of my money as a result.

Personally, I could care less if the Fort ever gets a counter service restaurant. In this day and age at WDW, it will just be another rip off.

TCD,
Could have not said it any better!:thumbsup2 It seems that dinning out at WDW seems to have become the most expensive part of a trip and we have the Tables In Wonderland discount card. More eating at the camper for us.

Guess just one more reason why FW is the best place to stay. We CAN prepare our own meals unlike those in the hotels who are at the mercy of Disney.

We went to TE Nov of 2007. We didn't enjoy it at all. It seemed to be all fried or smothered with cheese. So we now hop in our car and hit a restraunts down the road. Even if the food was terrific for breakfast....I have a hard time spending that kind of money. Call me CHEAP but for the price of a family of 4 you can have a golf cart for a few days!!!!!

I also noticed a decline in quality with Disney foods. Sometimes I wonder if my taste have just changed. I was living paycheck to paycheck when I first started going. Going out to eat was a luxury. Now, we eat out way too often. My expectations are way to high. When we go this May, I will have a print out of all of the places to eat right outside of Disney. Then I can pick what I want and not make reservations 4 months out. (Although I will for a few places).

Maybe I am a food snob!!!!:cool1:

I think I still go to Trails End, more for sentimental reasons than anything. Although them there Mickey Waffles are like WOW!!!!:banana::banana:

Anyway, we usually figure a food allowance for each of us for meals away from the camper. I like to go for my Waffle run, once on a long weekend trip. Since our kids are all teens, they have the choice of coming and using some of their allotted funds, or fix something at the trailer. They almost always choose to eat at the trailer.

It is just a fact that the variety on the buffet has been greatly reduced. It has been hit and miss as far as quality too. But still, I really love going down and seeing the gang there. I love to say "Hey, it's celebrity Ken!!!" and watch his reaction. Trail's End is just part of the FW experience. Then there are the waffles.....................

it used to be food court stlye
Oh
I didn't know that. I wonder why they changed it?

Someone else said that all the meals are rip offs- well to some of us they aren't. BUT the ones that are the high priced buffets usually have other things going for them- like CHARACTERS. TE doesn't even have that going for it- all it had going for it was the convenience of where it is (for FW guests) and the food- and now the food is going downhill and the price is going UP (for "holiday rates"- and don't get me started on that. I do not think it should go up in price same as CHARACTER BUFFETS! that's ridiculous- offer less food choices and raise the price at the same time?)

Doesn't seem like a good business move to reduce the food available and raise the price when it has nothing else going for it BUT the convenience (for those that could cook in their campers or cabins anyway- atleast a good portion of the guests there can- so even convenience isn't a HUGE pro for that buffet) and the food- when the food quality and quantity goes down you don't raise the price saying the month of June is a holiday! I mean come on..... let's get real here Disney!

You got that right, Carol. It started as a great place for adults to unwind, with live bands and fireworks everynight. Then Disney decided it would be a nice place for families to bring their kids, and the whole place went downhill. Disney was always a place where they promoted from within the ranks. They need to go back to that philosophy and stop hiring recent college business graduates as managers, many of whom probably never went to the place as kids.

NOTHING is frozen I know I am a castmember almost everything is hand made

Thank you. Aren't the waffle irons right behind the station for the Mickey Waffles???? The sticky buns are great..... I guess I definitely have a different view of the Trail's End breakfast.

I know they have backed off of offering some items, but what business isn't watching every penny right now. :confused3 Just MHO.

I'm sad to hear the poor reviews of TE, but glad I have y'all to warn me... Sounds like we'll be hopping a boat over to the Contemporary for breakfast on our resort day. The Wave looks interesting, and TE without the corned beef hash has no appeal whatsoever.

Bingo.

Great then you can pass the word on about this thread and let them read it for themselves...The food has gotton horrible!! I took a party of 8 into TE for breakfast and it cost about 200 before the DDP...if I had paid that day I would have been even MORE furious...Saving money that way looses customers..we won't be back either...its used to be we would go atleast 2-3 times per trip:mad:

Ditto for us. We will be a party of six this time and we usually go 2-3 times during the week because TE was always a good value and not worth driving off-site, but this trip we have decided to go off-site or eat at the camper. Especially during June when they raise the prices (guess that's to keep all us middle-class riff-raff out!).
