I am wondering if you have or would consider renting a travel trailer at Ft Wilderness.

A huge reason we camp is because I sleep in my own bed, sit on my own couch, eat at my own table, etc.. If we didn't have a TT, we'd either rent a cabin but would probably stay at the Wilderness Lodge.

FW does not rent travel trailers. There are trailer rental companies nearby though. I guess I would consider it, if the price was right. But, whenever we've checked into it, between the trailer rental and site rental, it was cheaper to stay in a Wilderness Cabin instead.

Thanks for the response. We have a TT that I was considering renting to families that want to go to FW. I am just trying to do research to see if there is any intrest in this. We live 2 hours from WDW and that would give me an excuse to visit more often!

If you know and trust them then you should tow it and come back and hook it up to return it. DO NOT RENT YOUR TRAILER TO A NON RV TYPE FOR THEM TO TRANSPORT IT TO/FROM ANYWHERE.

I agree. We were kicking around the idea of taking it to FW, set up and then pick it up after their vacation was finished. I think that is the only way we would be comfortable.

You know I feel the same way..however we actually would consider renting a travel trailer. I much prefer the camping loops in FW..didn't care for the cabins..a bit too removed from the campground amenities for my liking. Also they were VERY expensive. For that kind of money..we've been staying at the WL. We have our own TT but my husband is reluctant to tow from NY to FL. Between the time needed and the expense of the gas..he's just not into it. Renting a TT is something he would do. Might be the only way I'll get to stay in the camping loops at FW. If we stay in a hotel we're not sleeping in our own bed ...so I don't think it would be any different to stay in a TT. We have stayed in "on site" units in various campgrounds and I don't think this would be any different. Certainly something to consider.:)

I'd do it, to have a chance to try out something I might consider buying. For example, I have a popup and have major "TT with a bunkhouse" envy. :goodvibes I'd rent one with a bunkhouse in order to try it out and see if I think it's worth the hassles of upgrading. Or, if I only had a short trip and didn't feel like taking 4 days driving (2 days each way), I'd consider flying in and renting a TT there.

We rented trailers that were on site in a couple of campgrounds before we purchased our own. Gave us a feel for what we wanted in our own trailer. Rented with bunks..and then also rented with and without a slide. Once we rented the slide out we KNEW we wanted that in our own trailer. Of course these were actually owned by the RV parks we stayed in. However, being that isn't an option at FW...I would definetly consider renting one..especially if it's placed on site for you, can't go wrong.

I voted no. I like sleeping in my own bed.

Although some people do rent a travel trailer or motorhome before they buy so I guess in that case I'd give it a maybe yes.

Oh, I see. Your original post made it sound like you wanted to rent. Now that I read further down I see what you are thinking.
I don't know if I would rent out your trailer to someone. Maybe if it was someone you knew very well and trusted them. I am not sure how insurance would be handled either.

I think you would be better off driving it there and setting it up yourself but would they let you do that at the Fort?

I think there's too much potential for renters to trash your trailer out. I would be sure to have plenty of time between renters to clean/repair.

Would you allow pets? My dogs do a lot of tent camping with me, but I wouldn't want them tent camping in Florida. A trailer with A/C though, I'd at least consider it.

The only way I would be comfortable is to drive it and set it up ourselves. We are thinking of just renting to people on the disboards, not to just anyone! From my research so far, the insurance is purchased by the renter. It is usually about $15.00 per day. We are in the beginning stages of figuring this all out. Before we bought the trailer, we were considering renting but the prices were ridiculous. I dont know how the average person can afford to bring their kids to WDW for vacation. I am in the position to vacation often but I do remember the days when a trip to Disney was a dream for us. If we decide to rent it, maybe others will be able to enjoy a trip.

Yes we would allow pets. We have cats and they usually travel with us. We consider them part of the family.

You are so right. I really dont think it would be rented that much but we would definately have to have plenty of time for repairs. I dont intend to make a business of this, maybe just rent it rather than having it in storage when we are not using it. We wont be using it for awhile, my father had a stroke recently and I need to keep all the vacation time I have, to travel back and forth to Indiana.

Wow, as a non-trailer owner and frequent tent camper (with my dog), I would love to try trailer camping at the Fort! Who knows, I might like it so much that I'd have to get a trailer. What kind of trailer do you have? I've only ever tent camped at FW once and would love to stay there again, but DH says "I'm not sleeping in a tent at Disney". Frankly, their cabins are too $$$ so we stay value instead. It's great to be at Disney, but it ain't the Fort. FW is an experience all its own.

We have a 2007 Wildcat 5th wheel. Before getting the trailer, we were tent campers at FW. I would only camp in Jan or Feb because it is just too hot for me in the tent! We have never stayed in the cabins either, I think they are way too expensive. Now that we have the trailer, I hope to go more often. I have a web site going up. PM if anyone would like the link.

We would LOVE to do this. I wish people would use Vacation Rentals By Owner to do just what you are suggesting, OP.

There was a company I found but people said they were terrible -- trailer was kind of nasty, they took the renter to the cleaners on keeping their security deposit for no good reason, another poster said the first trailer's a/c broke and had to swap it out, wasted about 2/3 of a day of their vacation doing that.

I wonder how much trouble you'd have with people trashing your trailer for you, though. Those things are not very sturdy to begin with, and to have strangers usually ones with kids in and out, I wonder if it would be worth the wear and tear. Because once it didn't look perfect and shiny any more, your renters would start complaining.

I think like most business ideas, if it's viable, someone's already doing it, in most cases.

Now, having said all that, my god, PLEASE pm me, I would SO be interested in renting your trailer for a trip next summer!! :-)
