Traffic...ugh!

Maybe all the flatness. :confused3
No kidding!!! My step-sister is a sheriffs deputy in Broward Cty. She tells me horror stories. Now, she grew up in Quincy Ma....driving in that area is not for sissies!!! Can we talk 128?? Me too. But, when I drive in Florida??? Oh dear God. I have never seen so many people driving so fast, with no turn signals used whatsoever!! They just don't do it. Then, because everything is so flat and straight?? When I see a light turn yellow? I start slowing. But, I'm a lot further away from it than I realize. Now, I have people flipping me off and honking!! By the time I actually get to the light, it's green again!! I hate optical illusions when I'm driving!!

But, still? The biggest issue is the flat and straight. Everyone seems to think that they can bob and weave, in almost bumper to bumper traffic, going 60 mph!! Stick a few little old ladies in there??? Yeah, recipe for disaster.
And drive in Orlando? Home of the crazy, nutty tourist?? That's one reason I seldom drive a car in that area. I'll do it to get from Sanford to WDW, or from WDW to Tampa, but just to drive around vs using buses? Nope, not happening.
Give me 128 at 5:00 any day!!!!

When we were at the Embassy suites right outside of Downtown Disney a couple weeks ago, it would take 40 minutes to go less than 7 miles!

So, there's my step-mom. She has macular degeneration, and can still drive, but she only drives on nice, sunny days. Okay, no biggie. So when I go down to spend time with her, I drive. Of course, I stop using directionals and I speed through yellow lights for the first two weeks after I get home, but I digress. So, she tells me that when she has to get someplace, she just gets in the far right lane and pokes along. It horrifies me. But, her dd is a cop and is fully aware of her driving abilities..so it's up to her to deal with it.
But man.....the road is full of blue hairs down there. And sorry...I don't mean to offend, it's just the term that comes to mind!!!

Oh dear God!!! You must have run into the same people I have!!! The trying to decide which exit to take, then to decide it's 'that' one while moving at 65 mph in the far left lane!!! And the people in the right lane are trying to move around those other right lane drivers who are moving too slowly, but the faster drivers don't want to be bogged down in the middle lane either. And look......the Mickey shaped tower!!!
Yep, been there, done that. That's one reason I hate driving in the Orlando area.

All that planning by W.E.D., buying up all those thousands of acres, to be away from the traffic jams is all for naught now? ;)

Yes, Orlando traffic is ridiculous for a city of its relatively small size to other cities with similar traffic problems. Good thing we normally come in via the Western Beltway from the Reagan Turnpike now. That's like night and day versus I-4, 192, etc.
