I was reading the thread regarding the Washington Beltway traffic and have a question of my own regarding rush hour traffic in that area. I'll be coming over the Bay Bridge around 4pm-ish on a Tuesday, then plan to take I-97 to the airport. How bad is the rush hour traffic in that area?

Being a country bumpkin living over here in Slower Lower Delaware where we have no highways I tend to get a little stressed on the Interstates, particularly in bumper to bumper traffic.

I'm not a regular in that area, but I have driven there in the afternoon to catch flights at BWI and I have never had a major problem. Leave yourself an extra 15 minutes and I think you will be good.

I have noticed that my GPS tries to re-root me off the highway. I am sure its quicker mile wise, but I have stuck to 50/97 when its mid week.

I fly out of BWI about 50% of the time. I like to take 301 from Middletown across the Bay Bridge. It's a little longer, but the ride is better.

After you cross the Bay Bridge, you may run into a bit of rush-hour traffic in Annapolis -- right around the Severn River Bridge.

Thanks, MEK. The one time I did drive to BWI my GPS tried to re-route me as well.

I got a chuckle from the thing about the ride being better. That bridge freaks me out. :scared:

I crossed that bridge after returning from a trip one January at 11:30 at night when one side was closed. Talk about freaking out. :scared1:

There will be traffic around annapolis and northbound 97, but nothing like the DC and Baltimore beltways.
