There is a week available in II that my husband and I think we might like to do a Disney trip, but he doesn't know yet if it will work out with his job (it is a week that some years he has a business trip). If we take the week and then can't go, does anyone know if we could rent out the week to someone else later and change the name on the reservation (or even just give it to some friends to use)? I didn't know if you could change the name on the reservation after the reservation had already been made...Anyone? Dean?

It's against II's rules to rent out an exchange. There was a thread on the tug boards last week where someone advertised a Disney exchange for sale and within hours Interval had locked their account down. So no, you can't rent a II exchange.

You could give your exchange to a friend. You'd have to buy a $39.00 guest certificate fee to change the name on the reservation. On a Disney exchange to an onsite DVC, there's also that $95.00 resort fee, too.

thanks a lot for the info! I didn't know you couldn't rent II exchanges, but that makes sense...I wish we knew for sure if we could go that week or not, but we might take a gamble anyway. We could probably gift the week to someone if we couldn't go, I guess.

But you can let friends or family use it, there is the $39 fee with II to change the names and get a guest certificate. You could also add names to the reservation to allow someone else to check in ahead of you.
