Both my DD and DS got married recently (one in July and the other last month). My DH and I had told them that we would provide a honeymoon location for them (secretly hoping they'd pick a DVC property). DD chose Maui (Kahana Beach Resort) and DS chose the Cancun area (El Cid Marina - or something like that). We surprisingly didn't have any problems getting them resorts at those locations.

The exchange in Maui was actually an II trade, since it was booked when Disney was still with II. The resort didn't look like much to write home about, but they were just happy to have a place in Maui!

El Cid in Cancun (actually Puerto Morales) was an all-inclusive (additional $900 total fee for both of them.) When DS and his DW went on their honeymoon Sept. 26-Oct. 3, it only had 15% occupancy. They were super impressed with this resort and looking at their pictures, I would agree!

All in all, it was pretty easy to go through RCI (and II) via DVC to make the reservations and we would consider doing it again.

I know this isn't a trade OUT of DVC, but we love going to the Disney Hilton Head Island Resort.

We've not gone elsewhere.

The Royal Sands, Mexico - this July (under II).

We have also used a few points for each of our four DCL cruises.

Dean -- I'm hoping it's a one-time fee -- when I requested the exchange I was told that it was daily. Since we wanted to go to Pigeon Forge anyway, we figured $35/day was cheaper than paying for a room somewhere else. If it's a one time fee, that makes it an even better deal for us. Since we just got back from WDW, another trip next year isn't in the cards for us.
I'm not aware of a resort with a daily fee, only a one time fee for less than 7 days. I would be floored if it were anything else. However, many resorts that don't list a fee still have one so for under 7 days, don't assume no fee unless you call and they confirm it. Even then they could change it later and still cost you.

The Royal Mayan is dually affiliated with RCI and II as is the oldest Royal, VCI.

We traded into the Royal Sands 1 bedroom when DVC was with II. It was totally worth the trade. I won't be doing it again until I find a resort with great reviews. So far since we have been with RCI, I haven't found that resort yet.

Royal Resorts are on my exchange shortlist to Mexico.

We've traded for a stay at the Del Coronado in San Diego and the 7night Western Cruise we just returned from. Both trades included Developer Points and were well worth it!! Now that the VGC are open in Cali I'll probaby be more frugal with my points. Prior to that, we had to factor a cross country flight into the cost benefit of using only at a DVC property.
