In June 2008 I will hav 160 points that I would like to use for a trip to somewhere nice in the Caribbean. However, I would like to use those points to book a trip for March, April, or May 2007.

1st - can this be done or do I have to wait until I actually have the points?

2nd - what are my chances of getting into one of the Royals in Mexico or Marriott Aruba Surf Club or Ocean Club.

I realize how some feel that this is not the best use of points, however, I would like to give it a try. We aren't going back to Disney until 2009 (to make a long story short Banking is not an option).

I wish there was a "how to exchange DVC using II for Dummies." I sure could use it!

Thanks!

I have never used II, but from what I have read, you can deposit/request up to two years in advance. I'm sure that Disney allows you to deposit your 2008 points in advance so that you can have the best chance of getting your exchange. Oh, and I assume you are looking for 2008 weeks, not 2007 :).

I'm sure that Dean will chime in here with his II knowledge shortly :) . I would imagine that MS could also guide you through the process of using II. I think all you have to do is call MS and let them know you want to deposit 160 points into II and give them a list of resorts and date ranges.

It's less than a year out now, so I'm not sure what the odds are of getting any of the resorts listed. Owners would have booked and deposited their weeks already, and those weeks might have already matched someone else's ongoing request.

You are short notice but I'd think late April and May shouldn't be much of an issue. You will have to have the points that can be used in the use year of travel. I did look online with II and nothing sitting there right now. You should place an ongoing request with DVC if you are set on that trip.

maybe check out a place where you can swap with someone else? For example, I own a Marriott timeshare and could get into the Marriott Ocean Club (MUCH better than the Surf Club IMO by the way) in a heartbeat and if I was looking to travel to Disney again, I'd definitely swap with you. I think there are websites that handle trades like this... like redweek.com? That way you could trade a studio at SSR let's say and use a LOT less points than 160 for a week in Aruba. Just a thought!

Oh and just to clarify about the Marriotts in Aruba, we've stayed at the Ocean Club twice and it's right next door to the Surf Club. The Surf Club has a lot of construction and it's hard to relax when a crane is blocking your view of the ocean KWIM? It DOES have a lazy river and that's cool, but it's a 3 minute walk from the Ocean Club to the Surf Club and you can always just walk over to use their pools/lazy river for a day. Otherwise, the Ocean Club is more spread out and relaxed feeling BY FAR. At the Ocean Club you are sandwiched between the Surf Club and the Marriott Hotel and Stellaris Casino Resort... a short walk to either! Can you tell I love the Marriott Ocean Club?!

We tried for many years to trade DVC to Aruba to no avail. Last year we went on our own, stayed at Marriott Surb Club, Studio, 1 week, rented off timeshare owner for $1500. Mariott is nice, but getting a palapa on the beach is next to impossible. You have to get up at 6:00am to stand in line to reserve a palapa at 8:00. There are too many people in the 3 Marriott places(Surf Club, Beach Club, Hotel) - the beach is too small and Hotel guests get 1st dibs on everything. Rooms are nice, great restaurant for sunset dinners on the beach - a must do no matter where you stay on the island.

Anyway - rather than trading off, "Rent" your DVC points for one or two years and then rent a timeshare in Aruba, you can get a nice 1 bedroom on the beach for $2000 for a week - I know as we own one at the new Divi Aruba Phoenix and thats the going rate for 1 week - 1 bedroom at the brand new resort. You may find less expensive weeks elsewhere, beware of resort. Feel free to email me with questions.
